Summary0010423: Enabling V-Sync results in inconsistent jump height
DescriptionI don't know if this is just down to my particular setup, but I recently noticed that enabling V-Sync results in a more inconsistent, although usually slightly lower jump height.

I discovered this when I found a very testing jump on a slice that required maximum height for me to progress. I thought it was a bugged slice, which it may not actually be.

The report for that is here: http://www.arcengames.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=10420

It's probably just peculiar to my own particular machine, but if you want to test it, the best way is to download my world file on the other report and try to jump back over (right to left) the big pillar of turf. With V-Sync on I can rarely do this. With it off I can do it every time.

Edit: Since it is actually a little tough to jump over the pillar from left to right in the first place, I'm attaching a world file here with the character already on the right side of the pillar.

It was a bugged slice, but I can't repro the v-sync issue. What are your machine specs?

Haven't updated my drivers in a while. Maybe that's the problem.

Could be the driver. Would you mind updating?

Just updated to the latest drivers. Same problem occurs. Additionally tried fiddling with the various graphics options: resolution, disabling effects, graphics compression, refresh/frame rates, but nothing made a difference. The only thing that fixes the problem is turning off V-Sync. Seems to make the game run a lot smoother too, which is nice. The graphics are a bit smoother than I first thought they were.

Would be good if someone with an ATI card could try and reproduce the bug. A few tests on different machines would be nice just to verify that it's actually only a problem on my end and that nobody else is affected.

I have a 5870, I'll see if I can repro it today or tomorrow. One weird thing on your system is the "my video hook driver2". Here's what mine says with the new ATI 13.1 drivers.

Number of Logical Video Cards: 2
    No SLI or Crossfire Detected

@ theqmann, I'm absolutely interested in your results. If you have time today to try to repro that, I'd really appreciate it.

'One weird thing on your system is the "my video hook driver2"'

Good spot! This might have something to do with a program called Ultravnc that I have installed. Will investigate, cheers!

I mentioned this one to Chris, here's what he said: They might see if turning on Triple Buffering or similar in the Catalyst Control Center will help with that.

Or maybe it has to be D3DOverrider, I'm not sure: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-2491580.html

Fixed the mv video hook driver thing, didn't help. However forcing triple buffering by using D3DOOverrider did work! Thanks Tigersfan and Chris! Haven't quite fully tested it. One time the problem inexplicably returned, but now as long as I have triple buffering forced it seems to work pretty much every time.

I also tested this issue on my other PC with a much older 8600GT graphics card but it was fine. Seems a bit strange that the problem occurs on a newer and more powerful 5750HD and not on the old card but hey it's fixed, now.

Hopefully I was the only one suffering with this problem. It's a little hard to notice until you have to make a maximum jump.
