Summary0001598: Bacteria Blob Ship
DescriptionI'm sure many players have had a blob of ships park on top of a AI force field and degrade and destroy it. I notice that I how white blood cells devour harmful pathogens in the body. But it also inspired a new ship type.

A very large ship made out of lots (10^40 [just a statistic]) of human controlled bacteria that consumes, erodes, and degrades enemy ships.

The size I'm thinking is larger than a core force field, or even the size of 5000 range (probably best to have this drawn under everything else). All enemies inside the bacteria receives high biological damage with high armor piecing.
The bacteria, however, isn't very durable. Very low health and no armor. The size of the blob will shrink as its health drops, like a force field. This makes it not so useful in combat but more useful when using diversions elsewhere and cleaning up hordes of left over force fields that will take more time than it should be worth to eradicate.
They can't damage some hull types, like command type. They self attrition when outside of supply and have no self regen, I thought about having regen only on friendly planets but might as well have the assistance of mechanics to do that (bacteria that grows and dies while under human control and speeding at great velocities with seemingly no food to sustain it is fantastic enough).

I'm not quite sure what that would do against forcefields.

Its supposed to damage them on contact. I wanted this to be like a forcefield that damages other ships and specializes in taking down forcefields

I think the idea is a little odd, but there might be something there.

The problem is that FFs have crazy high HP values so what would the thing do to regular ships?

Think of it like a glass cannon that has internal reach, it will shrink very fast with not a lot of damage (perhaps 5k-10k health)

My message got lost when my 'net went down.

Summary:

1000 damage/sec
x1000 vs. structures
?

Most AI Structures would still take 30+ seconds to take down, but would be trivial to kill (10,000 hp means under ten fighters could kill it before it does meaningful damage).

Note: numbers are only conceptual, not suggestory.

That is exactly how its supposed to work. As stated its not supposed to see real combat (though, the health might need to be a little greater).

This ship is mainly supposed to be a utility to depose of structures like Astro Train Stations, Core Shield Generators, and Force Fields (these being quite tedious to use your fleet a couple of minutes when you need them else where), and anything else they possibly could last against (which shouldn't be anything with real guns).

Not that we need them against FFgens any more. They insta-die if there's nothing under them and the command station is dead (if there's something alive under them, then this blob would die first).

But against other structures it would still be useful.

Does that apply to shield spheres too?

It does!

Idk, I kinda like that fact it takes thiry minutes to kill AI shields. Doesnt it take them the same amount of time? How is it an against the odds game if you arm the player with tools able to easily counter every threat the AI throws at you?

The idea presented here would take 56 seconds to kill a Mk1 AI Force Field by itself (if I am remembering its hit point total correctly) at the damage rate I proposed but would die to a stiff breeze (i.e. if there's anything under that FF, this suggested unit would die first).

Basically the suggestion here is a "mop up device" that cleans player's worlds of high hit point structures without needing to use their fleet.

Sounds like a new purpose for the clean-up-drone...
