Summary0001806: Fog [of War] Machine - Structure
DescriptionA structure that covers the entire planet with fog of war that serves mainly as a graphical hindrance to human players, and to restrict intel that is gathered on the planet. Ships provide sight; scouts provide the most, starships second, and main fleet ships the least.

What it affects:
- Amount of area seen on planet,
- Scouting; intel is gathered by scouts on visual, and the sidebar cannot be used (so humans can't click to jumpto unit).

What it doesn't affect:
- Ship ability to attack,
- Pathfinding (scouts travelling through planet).

A really cool addition to this would be to provide vision from friendly weapons fire, but that may be hard to implement and increase CPU usage.

If we have a Fog Machine structure, do we get a Disco Ball structure too? :P In all seriousness, I do kind of like the idea. Maybe seed it on planets with a lot of high value targets so the AI can hide its valuable stuff?

Hmm, this sounds like it would just add a big chunk of micro to the game. Not a bad idea in its own right, though. Perhaps even:
Easy fog, the fog machine is always visible
Medium fog, it isn't, you have to find it
Hard fog, there is no fog structure, the fog remains until you take the planet

Well, it shouldn't be on ALL or A LOT of AI planets, but it would definitely add a new strategic element to a specific planet, unless a new AI type that implements this structure regularly is also introduced.

Sounds like a weaker version of the planetary cloaker in effect unless it also cloaks itself. If it does, it could make a nice secondary type of special planetary thing to use instead of plantary cloaks for that one ai type.

Going blind against AI is kind of a suicide. Every ship is precious for me, as every loss costs very much to me (playing on 9/9 random hard AIs with 10 progression per tick), as I'm not getting all the planets I see. If there will be a planet with this device floating over it, I'd most certainly lose a huge chunk of my army probably.

This would be a real pain technically, and I'm not sure it adds much in terms of gameplay.
