Summary0002392: Ships should have different "sizes" for the purposes of transports
DescriptionCurrently, it's possible to transport a full cap of every starship in the game in a single transport, with room for a few Fallen Spire ships beside.

On the flip side, a cap of Mark I bombers + Mark I fighters will just about fill up a transport.

Obviously there is a pretty big firepower difference in these two situations.

On the flip side of the equation, a single Spire Maw can swallow pretty much as many starships as you can field, but will quickly fill up with fleet ships.

My suggestion is introduce a "ship size" variable of some kind that affects how much "room" the ship takes up in a transport. This would 1 for nearly all fleet ships (except maybe things like Stealth Battleships) but would be larger (10+?) for things like starships.

Ever since I read about the change to make starships transportable, I had wondered about this. It seems way to abusable to me that something as big and powerful as a starship takes up the same room as a puny little fleet ship.

Good to know I am not alone in the sentiment.

Not at this time... The complexity is not something I'm fond of. Mainly the user complexity, in terns of what do te "number of units in" counts actually mean, etc. At any rate, I've never been super fond of these sorts of systems in rts games, and didn't implement it that way in the first placefor a reason. This is one of those things where I could see myself changing my mind in the future if there was a compelling enough use case. But in terms of the maws, I'm for the moment pretty happy with how the penalize the big ships.
