Summary0002514: FRD Engineers fly into dangerous situations.
DescriptionEngineers like to heal military, and you can turn that off. Problem is, I want my Engineers to heal my current ships over building more, but only when getting over to the damaged ship won't kill the engineer. I'd like an option so I can tell the Engineers who aren't cloaked to not assist military when their planet is under attack, opting to wait for the AI forces to be gone before leaving the safety of the force field.

Simple, set your mk3 and above engies to FRD, the rest is positioned near the starting location of the fleet. When they return from combat the engies will repair them, when they move out of range the engies could stay under an FF while the mk3+ engies take over. Besides that, you have MRSs.
(I have mk1 engies supporting docks where exp:engies/mk3s FRD the planet, the mk1s make sure production continues non-stop, the experimentals make sure ships and turrets stay at 100% health, combined with MRSs.)

Maybe as an idea, could we have beefier engineers? At present they die almost instantly. Perhaps a bit of a health boost and armor boost.

Engineers should seek force field protection when there's an enemy present on the system. Like how auto-harvester building works, till the system is clean, no harvesters are being built. When system is cleaned, all destroyed harvesters are built again, and engineers fly away from force field in happiness, and so on...

That would be nice, however experimental engineers do wonders repairing your fleet during a fight. I sometimes even group them with the fleet for longer raids, just make sure to move in little steps or your engies will be waiting there for the fleet to arrive .. as sitting ducks :)
(It would still work as long as this only works on FRD-engies.)
