Summary0002632: increase resource cap / reserve
DescriptionWith Light of the Spire it's easy to get 4-5k of resource income, filling the cap in only 200s and you often have to build ships/buildings that cost 1m per resource.

I suggest upping the cap to 3m, 5m or even 10m.

If you don't like that, how about setting up a reserve?
Add a setting where you can set an amount of resources that will not be used as long as the reserve is active - the game handles it as if the resources were at 0.
Only if you open the reserve in times of need (like to repeair your fleet or hastily build some defenses against some unexpected wave) may they be used.

Ideally, I'd like both to be implemented :D

I already upped the cap from 600k to 900k recently. I strongly doubt I'll ever go higher than that, or add reserves. The reason is that when players can just store up massive amounts of resources they can make such a huge safety buffer by waiting that it's game-breaking. That's why I originally put in the cap in the first place (back pre-1.0), because prior to that it was into the low billions on cap.

If you acquire so many resources, you aren't spending them enough! There's never a good reason to carry a huge balance in this game, as the economy is entirely flow-based.

I see your point about storing too much.

However, I think it does not apply to the reserve as that would be inside the cap.
To not aquire that many resources I have to constantly spend as much or more that I am earning. So I am scraping the bottom of my storage.
I want to be able to do that (just select x things to build and have the engineers do their job) but at the same time there are occassions where just building of the income doesn't cut it, like rebuilding defenses in between 2 waves in short sucession or rebuilding my bomber cap after killing a fortress on a planet with an AI Eye.
I can do that now by pausing engineers / building units by hand, the reserve would just remove that micro.

There's actually a "Pause All Constructors" option in the Ctrls screen for just this sort of event -- removes all the micro except pressing the button. :)

There are already reserves in the game. And they in a way work sort of how you describe. You press a button (right click with ships selected), and you get the resources. Capture them and you have to 'delete' them (2 buttons pressed :)).

Save these around your planets and mark the planets for easy reference and you have quite a sizeable reserve for needy times. (I often 'hunt' them down in the first 2-3 minutes of the game, guarantees a full mk2 fleet in under 10min gametime :).)
