Summary0002656: [4.074] "Numbers of Mauraders to Spawn" "Quadrupled" on Low Caps?
DescriptionThe "number of marauders to spawn" was computed by roughly "number of human military ships here" minus "number of AI military ships here" (and capped at the value of the marauder counter). It now takes simply either "number of human military ships here" or "number of AI military ships here", whichever is larger (though capped at 4x the smaller value) and divides it by 8. This number is then doubled on normal unit caps, and quadrupled on low caps. Anyway, the upshot should be less chance of small marauder spawns that cause the marauder counter to stay "stockpiled".

Am I reading that right, that on low caps the number of spawned marauders is 4x HIGHER than on high caps?

The marauders shall take over the galaxy!

Er, um, ahem.

Actually, it's not increasing the number of marauders that will spawn in equivalent circumstances. Though I do understand the confusion, it's one of those hard-to-explain-in-english (as opposed to code) things. Perhaps I would have done better with a vague release note ;) Anyway:

1) "(and capped at the value of the marauder counter)"
- The rate at which the marauder counter increases, the value at which it's eligible to trigger a spawn, and its maximum value are all identical on low, normal, and high caps.

2) 'either "number of human military ships here" or "number of AI military ships here", whichever is larger (though capped at 4x the smaller value) and divides it by 8'
- This number will generally be 4x on High what it is on Low, and 2x on High what it is on Normal. Hence the next clause:

3) "This number is then doubled on normal unit caps, and quadrupled on low caps"
- This is because marauder ships are not scaled, and have the same stats on High, Normal, and Low caps. Without this rule, the threat posed by their spawns would be much lower on Low and Normal in some cases than they would be on High.

Make sense?

Is that as in "Ahhhh, I understand now"? Or as in "Ahhhh! Run away from the vorpal rabbit!"? ;)
