Summary0003013: Allow prioritization of orbital command station/other structure defense vs. chasing in FRD mode
DescriptionWhen units are in FRD mode, they have a tendency to chase the farthest ships, not attack groups or those most in danger of affecting structures:

1) Military OCS can throw units quite far -- I end up with lots of units chasing these, not defending my OCS
2) With bombers set to perfer hybrid hives, they will still allow a group of hives to run up to the command station, while they prefer closer targets

Maybe most useful with flocking behavior, to prevent widely scattering your forces (3012).

Sadly, the targetting logic has to deal with such a HUGE number of ships per frame, that any sort of "smart" target selection based on current circumstances (as opposed to information applicable at all times) is pretty much infeasible performance wise.

This is sort of sad, especially seeing the very nice range sensitive, threat sensitive, auto-preempting of auto-attack orders, and overall pretty smart targeting logic that many other modern RTSs have. The can afford to do it because they don't have to deal with thousands of units on a regular basis.

Oh, you might want to look into attack-move. When ships are in attack-move mode, they won't chase units the are far away, but they will move towards targets they are close to. I use it for defending an important spot sometimes.

You can issue the order with X+right click.
