Summary0003353: Forest Region Names
DescriptionThis is sort of like the randomized character names. Under Logic/RegionNames there are three folders for deserts:

ForestNoun
ForestPostName
ForestPreAdjective

95% of the time, the name of a forest region will be:

ForestPreAdjective (space) ForestNoun

5% of the time, the name of a forest region will be:

ForestNoun (space) ForestPostName

I have seeded these files with some very small amounts of basic names, but I did really very little. About the three groups:

The ForestNoun is always present, but it is also the hardest to fill; there just aren't very many synonyms for "forest" or similar. There are some that are more obscure than others -- ones that don't make for very good names, but do make for at least some variety. In order that those don't get too frequent, the ones that ARE very good (like Woods, Wood, Forest, etc) are repeated multiple times in the file. The more it is repeated, the more frequent it will be compared to the other entries. Entries like "Shrubs" aren't very good, but are okay, so they're in there just once.

For ForestNoun, make as many entries as you can think of or find (I find that thesaurus.com and http://onelook.com/reverse-dictionary.shtml are both invaluable references for this sort of thing), but don't go spend crazy amounts of time with it. It may be a stretch to get even half a dozen unique entries in the case of some region types, but it would be nice to have maybe 10 if at all possible (and it won't always be).

The ForestPostName is used by far the least frequently, but it is much easier to do. You can put things like "of Blight" or "at Westchstershire." Whatever, it doesn't matter as long as it sounds appropriate to the type of landscape, and sounds reasonably unique. "The Woods at Darburshire" are the sorts of names that get created when ForestPostName is used, and that's why it's only used 5% of the time -- a little of that goes a long way. If you can create 50-100 entries here, that will be plenty, I'd think; this doesn't need too much research or an overabundance of careful thought, it's more like free association within certain forest-y sounding bounds.

The ForestPreAdjective is another that is used a TON (95% of the time). So if it's possible to get 200-500 entries, whatever feels right, that would be great. Here these are not all actually adjectives, but they are all descriptors of some sort. "Black" makes "Black Forest," "Black Glade," etc. "Edward's" makes "Edward's Forest," etc. You can even have other nouns, like "Frog," which makes "Frog Forest," etc. The reason we need so many PreAdjective versions is because these are easy while the Nouns are so very very hard to come up with. If there are only 10 unique Nouns, for instance, then it takes 1000 PreAdjectives to get 10k unique names of this style. Not that we need 10k unique names; 2k-5k will do, which is why the 200-500 names goal here.

This is the pattern used by many of the region names, so most of them I will refer to here except the few that vary from this pattern.
