Summary0003909: Stuck on slanted terrain issue (still)
DescriptionThis has been around a while but has gotten better.

I got stuck on slanted terrain again just now (just outside of the Modern Ruins building in the save in bug 3906 number 2). As I recall, I had jumped and landed in the middle of a section of two pieces of slanted terrain (just to the left of the aforementioned building). I was stuck until I jumped again, though I didn't try running the other way or stop running and start running again.

I cannot intentionally reproduce it.

I am wondering if I landed exactly at the wrong spot such that the physics calculations put me between/into the two slanted segments by a miniscule amount (instead of clamping it entirely?) that was later rounded away and let me move again when I did another input...

That 000002 above is supposed to be number-sign/hash/pound 2. Not sure why Mantis changed what I typed.

Yeah, I've seen that as well today. It seems to be far rarer than it once was, so that's something. But I think it does have something to do with the space right between the two, yeah.

What do you know. As soon as I went back to playtesting, my very next jump the same thing happened. It really does seem like a mathematical hitch where the tiles meet.

Yeah, the hash sign is a special character in manyis, causing it to link to a specific issue. I think tilde is also a special character, but I can't recall if that's the one or not.

Well, unfortunately, I can't intentionally reproduce it either. I have seen it before, maybe twice in the last couple of days, but I can't do it by turning up the gravity or using guide-marks to hit the very center of the tiles, or anything. None of the tricks that I was able to use on the prior issue with the slanted terrain stuff.

So... much as I'd like to address this, unless somebody figures out a way to repro I'm pretty much out of ideas. These physics things are really challenging to debug, and just looking at the code is not much help because I've been all through it repeatedly lately. So I really have to have some sort of repro case for this one. :/

Bumping down its internal weight, as well, as this one is so rare.

Suggestion:

Command line option to keep an internal circular queue of perhaps 10 seconds of detailed physics/geometry/location information on the character. Dump that log to file and force a save when you hit F11 or something.

That way when it happens again I can click that and you can then reproduce it. :)

That would certainly be the bazooka way to solve this issue, sure. But my thought is that once we get the last couple of kinks out of the physics system, that's not something we're going to be messing with on an ongoing basis. But that would certainly work if nothing else does!

Having run into it a couple more times today, I think it has to do with when you are moving laterally, but we'll see.

New spell: Admiral's Bazooka Queue

Repeated invocations teleport you to the N most recent places visited via travel map.

I THINK this is resolved in the new version.
