Summary0008739: Wind shelter/tower placed on map causes scroll to be used, but does not create mission.
DescriptionIn our MP game a player (not myself) used our two remaining scrolls (which were consumed in the process), but no mission appeared. I later launched the world in single player, and used a scroll in the same square, and the mission appeared normally.

Unfortunately I did not think to make a backup of the world file at the time, and the current world file has a wind shelter mission on the square in question.

Thanks for the report :) I'm very pressed for time and would prefer to not spend a while trying to reproduce this myself, so could you:
1) Backup your world.
2) Try to find a world map square where you can successfully create a wind shelter mission in SP, but cannot (working from the backup, presumably) create it in MP?
3) Upload your backup to this mantis ticket and tell us the world map square where that's true.

Thanks :)

We actually managed to find an old backup from before the event in question, and were able to reproduce the situation and bug exactly, down to the positioning of the buoys.

The bug occurs at 2,9. Two of my friends both tried to place wind shelters, but neither appeared though both scrolls seemed to be consumed. However, when I launched the server again with a fresh version of the backup, I found that *I* could place the wind shelter, even in MP (if that is clear. I launched server on my PC, then connected to it in my game client via the "connect to server on LAN" menu).

I have some screenshots of the process as well, if you'd like those let me know. But I assume the world is more useful.

Thanks very much for the world, it actually helped me find an MP-only blocker bug in our under-development 1.109 version that we didn't realize was there :)

Regrettably, I cannot reproduce the bug you're reporting though. Thank you for the specific steps to reproduce (build wind shelter on 2,9 from player on different computer), and I may be able to get it to happen with another test, but even with our really-high-latency-simulation thing on it won't do it.

Can you tell me the actual player profile name of one of the players who couldn't get it to work? I tried a couple of them ("Lust For Beer" definitely brought a note of humor to the testing process).

Lust for Beer was one of the lab mic-- er, testers. I believe Cirrhosis was the profile name of the other one, if I'm understanding which profile name you're talking about.

If you need more specific details about their names in some way I'm not understanding, let me know and I'll bug them tonight.

Hmmm, I can't repro this. Even with two machines, and the lag simulator running.

I can, with a fair degree of certainty, reproduce 'failed wind shelter placement' on land regions connected to standard Ocean tiles that are non-turbulent as a result of a buoy. (And no other non-stormy tiles but standard ocean.)

The stipulation is, it has to be a Client (Account number >1). Every time I've attempted it a crossed multiple servers it has simply consumed the scroll with no placement of the wind shelter.

I had this problem in connection to playing a Seek Survivor on land next to (to the right of) a non-turbulent Ocean tile, thinking I'd be able to rescue a new NPC type from that Ocean tile. Instead all the tiles except the Ocean tile got a Rescue Survivor mission. Could this be related, or perhaps just intended for the 1st Continent?

Again this is on MP, brand new 1.2 world.

Edit: Perhaps it's just that Ocean tiles cannot get missions normally. I successfully used it on Ocean Shallows and Sea Port, just not "Ocean". However, the objective "Unlock a Wild Garden Age NPC" clearly says "Ocean". I added bug 0008992 for this.
