Summary0009892: Grays that don't mind the rain.
DescriptionAfter you defeat the Warehouse boss in Stantonsburg, you are immediately treated to a New Gray caused by the scripted FGKILL of an NPC. Yay! :) However, it also starts pouring rain outside. I remember you talking about New Grays (and/or other Gray types?) being invulnerable to rain, but I feel that this could confuse the player.

I'm pretty sure this behavior is desired, so for now, I am inserting a message at this point that says New Grays have not yet developed an aversion to water. (We did decide that this is how "Zombie Mom" survived when Darrell had to fend her off...)

I actually really like the conversational text I've written that occurs after the Boss Level regarding New Grays and rain. This is a "For Discussion Only" issue, of course, so feel free to close this at any time.

That's a tricky thing; in the past, no grays were supposed to be immune to the rain. I agree it could be a little confusing, but then again it could also work out well in terms of mechanically. But there are several levels that require the new grays to not be able to go into the rain, I will note.

After having played College Courtyard, I know that we have RainShowers where the rain comes and goes in intervals. While it's raining, the Grays are stunned and can't move. (A very fun level, for this reason!)

The problem, of course, is that water is patently fatal to Grays. I think we should do both of the following:

- Make New Grays stay still while it's raining instead of running around just because they're already out in the rain.

- Set the rain in Stantonsburg to RainShowers so that New Grays, which make this 2nd OW area MUCH harder, are tempered back while still making the place scary.

We might even create some spawn points here and there so that there are more Grays that will come after you when the rain lets up...

Oh, in case you need it, College Courtyard is level 080. And as a reminder, this issue refers to the New Grays that appear late in Stantonsburg.

Do you have a savegame demonstrating what you need me to change on my end? I think what you're saying sounds really reasonable, but I'm not quite sure what you need from me to make it happen; it sounds like just some changes to the new grays on my part, and then you set the rain to come and go in that part of stantonsburg after certain events have been triggered.

I don't have multiple save files, but yes, your part is only to make New Grays (and all other Grays, if still needed) stay still when in the rain. The key is to check for this the moment the New Gray is spawned because in the first moment upon exiting the Boss Warehouse, there's a dead NPC laying on the path. I will change the scripted weather accordingly. :)

I'm marking this one as won't fix -- basically the new grays are working properly, and so are the other grays.

Water is fatal to grays, but only in certain quantities. That was always the reasoning behind them being stunned in the rain, and that would break many levels to change.

The new grays are stronger and thus can move freely in the rain. This is the same reason that grays can get their feet very slightly wet at the edge of a river, but if they're doused with thick water all at once that's really bad for them.

Stretching realism slightly with the rain? Yeah. But definitely not something to change, it works too well mechanically.
