Summary0001179: Suggestion: buff snipers
DescriptionMobile snipers have a tiny shipcap (19?) and only 460 damage (with 1000 AP), tiny HP. they are worse than sentinel frigates in every measurable way besides the travel time of their projectiles.

immobile sniper turrets are not much more valuable.

suggestion: make sniper turrets armour percing extrodnaire (100,000) and give them bonus vs the heavily armoured ships like raid starships, armour ships etc to give them more purpose.

also, give them a bonus VS command stations, structures & turrets instead of penalties, so beachheads have more purpose and AI snipers are actually dangerous

I'm for the armor piercing bonus but definitely not for the command station/structure bonus.

It doesn't make sense flavor-wise and it would defeat the purpose of a beachhead I believe. (A beachhead is meant to be an area where one can reinforce from.. not one where one can shoot from with impunity :P )

Again I do think they would be cool as counter armor though. Not thinking about balance here though.

Counter-armour would be in keeping with their new "railgun" stylings as would giving them a bonus against "hard" hull types used by Armour & Raid starships.

I already like sniper turrets as they are. They have never been big killers but they provide very useful fire support. The sniper unit on the other hand is a joke considering it's not even much cheaper than a sentinel frigate.

I think I agree with this. Bonuses vs. heavy armor makes sense (snipers take a shot that ignores armor, making every shot count) but I don't agree with giving them bonuses vs. structures.

Especially not when the player could build 10 or 20 of them in an AI system and just snipe the command station.
