Summary | 0001318: Wave size rebalance
Description | The thread about Ion cannons started me thinking... 1) Instead of wave size modifiers being per planet they are global 2) I suggest starting by dividing the current modifier by 100, So instead of 6x waves on one planet, it be 1.06x waves globally 3) Make the multiplier additive (Ei. 2 6x mod is currently 36x bring it down is 1.12x) This allows players to keep Ion cannons and make them useful as the penality for them is *only* a few dozen extra ships in every wave which is about equal to the combat power of a Ion Cannon. This would also make difficulty move smoother, and remove the situation where planet A gets a wave of 300, which is easy to deal with, but planet B gets a wave of 900(or more!) because you forgot to scrap a Ion Cannon

Multipliers being global, huh. Not necessarily a bad idea. The additional 0.06x multiplier seems rather pointless though and makes no noticeable difference. Maybe 0.25x-0.5x or so instead. |
Well, remeber that 0.06 is for one Ion cannon, If you have a few plus a ZPG and a golem you are looking at at least 20% larger waves everywhere. |
Well, generally if I get 200 or 300 ships in a wave hardly ever makes a difference. A flimsy defense that can't take a few extra ships isn't a good defense. ;) It should also be remembered that the Ion Cannons and other Zenith Trader goodies are special. The benefit you gain from them isn't supposed to be equal to the disadvantages/penalties. That would make them ordinary and too beneficial. It's however true, that it would be nicer if the penalties were gradual and not so harsh in one place. That way you could use couple of Ion Cannons without tremendously weakening your defenses overall. But when you have many, you'll start noticing the effect everywhere. |

I always thought golems should make all ai waves bigger because of increased raaaage. |
These things are primarily capturables, not trade items. I get a good advantage if I don't try to keep the IC alive while capping the system so I just smash Mk3 and 4s immediately as they aren't worth capturing. Mk1 and 2 ICs are better because they offer a benefit without a crippling disadvantage. |
I went a different way, and I just took out the wave size boosting all together. I considered going with this sort of route, but ultimately the balance has changed enough not to matter anymore with that. Thanks! |
