Summary0001339: Resistance Fighters seem to have a low spawning rate compared to Marauders
DescriptionI'm 8 hours into my one of my current games and while I've seen marauders quite a few times I've yet to see Resistance fighters once so far.

Edit:

Seeing as I've seen a few now in that game (0000007:0000004.041) I have to ask: How often are Resistance Fighters supposed to spawn compared to Marauders and if it is less often, is it supposed to be that way?

I started mine a version or two ago. I know they're enabled since I can see it on the stat tab, I just haven't seen any.

I've finally seen some Resistance Fighters. If the spawn rate for Resistence Fighters is meant to be lower than that of Marauders then I would consider this issue resolved.

I wouldn't mind seeing them a little more often though.

There isn't a particular "spawn rate" for marauders or resistance fighters. Rather, there is a counter that ticks up in the background, and which then has a certain number of them that can be created when an appropriate event rolls around.

"Appropriate events" for the marauders are usually more common simply because they get thrown into battles which are close in order to attempt to destabilize things further. With most advanced players, that's going to happen more often.

On the other hands, the resistance fighters tend to only show up when they think you're in trouble AND their presence would likely tip the scales. If you're outnumbered 10:1 they won't throw their lives away (unless they'd bring those odds to 1:1 or close), but sometimes if it's 12:7 odds or something, they'll show up to save the day.

The problem, and the reason why there is suddenly this occurring in the 4.xxx versions, is that these base their calculations off of the number of human vs the number of AI ships at a planet. With ships varying in scale so much, that's no longer a good gauge of relative strengths. This will need to be adjusted to work based off of "firepower ratings" instead, I think.

A firepower rating would be a great idea.

Thanks for filling me in on the Resistance Fighters' spawn logic. I don't get into trouble often but when I do, it usually isn't close. As I start using smaller forces more often, like we talked about a week or two ago, I'll probably see more of them though which would be nice.

* Previously, the logic for human resistance fighters to spawn was a bit fiddly and wasn't always working as intended. It's been overhauled so that n AI planets, resistance fighters have a chance of joining in when there are at least 300 human-allied military ships, and the AI still outnumbers the humans in terms of ship count; while on human or neutral planets, there must be at least 400 human-enemy military ships, and the resistance fighters may join in.
