DescriptionMore testing and I ran into a problem that I'd figured would show up sooner or later: Lack of abilities can make a battle take a REALLY long time. Not a good thing.

Playing Misery difficulty here.

First battle of the game, and it takes **50** minutes. This being because I had to do EVERYTHING without using any abilities whatsoever. There's no room for error on this difficulty; even a small mistake can get you destroyed in seconds. Only the basic yellow bullets of interceptors can really be tanked here, so I have to avoid absolutely everything else as much as possible. This means that it's difficult to get into a position to take a few shots at the actual flagships. Abilities wouldnt really decrease the challenge here.... it'd still be "make a mistake, die immediately", but would instead simply speed things up. Things like the Gigacannon to do damage to flagships faster, or the laser burst thing to help clear the unending waves of small ships, and so on. Might also lead to a bit less frustration for players, as the difficulty here really is *very* high.

I havent tried the smuggling missions yet, but I"m guessing they are so much worse as to be unplayable. I'm expecting AT LEAST 3 times the amount of time needed to beat this mission. There's just too many targets, and even more difficulty in getting close enough to fire at them. The tactic of just charging through the wall of stuff wont work on Misery at all. Particularly not with the engine speed changes.

Seriously, these should be turned on for anything that isnt a Burlusk warlord battle. Not having them doesnt so much increase the challenge as it does simply increase the time needed.

As much as I enjoy playing on this difficulty, these simply take too long for it to be viable. The smuggling missions will take bloody forever... Granted, missions AFTER this shouldnt be TOO much of a problem, but still. Even those could take awhile, particularly any missions where it's just you against them, instead of with allies to help.

There's also the issue of enemy flagships having WAY too many fighters of various sorts to spawn.... it almost seems infinite. Which adds further to this problem.

* If you have special abilities unlocked, they now are available on all mission types again, EXCEPT for the burlust warlord fights.
** So if you're not playing with the tutorials on, then that means you do get them in the first battle.

* If you play the game on Misery difficulty, it now immediately unlocks the flagship power management and the combat special abilities even if you have the tutorials otherwise turned on. You simply can't do without these, but you might want other tutorial bits.

Let's see how this does, and go from there. The squadrons thing is not something that is infinite, but it may need tuning by difficulty or something. I'll also put in a display of how many squadrons remaining in each flagship there are.

I thought the squadrons were infinite too it certainly feels like it :-)

I have put in a line item now that shows that in the next version. The number of squadrons is based on the power level (base, not effective) of the armada, in a ratio to the number of flotillas there are in there. At higher power levels, there may be a bug, but with lower-power-levels it seems to be powering.
