Summary0001515: random surveyable anomalies
DescriptionSo basically, just random events on a timer perhaps, that show up if you have scout intel in a system. Itll basically say: 'anomaly found in x system, recommend you investigate'

rewards for doing so could be anything from knowledge, free tech of some sort, random starship of some sorts, you get the idea...

it will also give a use to the survey ship outside of the LotS plot.

I was just thinking of something similar, but instead of anomalies they'd be stuff like distress beacons, etc. These could either be announced at timed intervals, or you'd need to find them on your own (promoting exploration ain't a bad thing). Surveying them would reveal a task (side quest, basically) you need to complete to get the reward. Although, I suppose a few of them could simply be hidden stashes of stuff you get instantly. And to balance things, a few of them could be traps, which announce a sudden wave or something.

Types of tasks could be, for example:
-Destroy a specific AI structure
-Capture or clear a planet
-Defend a target (which is revealed along with the task info)
-Survey or scout another, specific planet

Rewards could be
-Knowledge
-AIP decrease
-Ship/tech unlock
-A batch of unique ships you can't obtain any other way, like elite human survivors.
-Permanent scout intel on a few random AI planets. (maybe some immobile mk4 scout equivalents spawn on those planets)

The combinations of task and reward could be 'random', based on map seed. Sometimes you might get awesome deals, other times you might want to reconsider whether the quest is worth pursuing.

Easier approach: Just a bunch of random ships with a certain chance of them being AI ships that then proceed to attack you.
