Summary0015300: every race researched the exact same tech at the same second
DescriptionLiterally all teams, got the same tech (Bomblet Submunitions) at the same day through Scientific Breakthrough. Coincidence or bug? Feels like a bug. Even if it is just one of those random things, it feels wrong. I know that Sid Meier would check the random events to prevent streaks like this (even if that is a truly random streak).

I'm pretty sure this isn't a bug, but i've always wanted to write about it. It's one of the bigger initial superficial problems I had with the game. I think the tech becomes unlocked and all the races just buy it because they don't have anything else to spend their credits on.

It bothered me the most when it would show they all researched certain types of ships but that might be out now? I havent noticed that in my current game.

Anyway when you hit a year a group of techs get unlocked usually the races that are doing well will all purchase the same 2 or 3 techs immediately. I dislike this a lot. It makes the game feel sterile etc... Why am I doing all this careful plotting of who gets what tech etc, only to see them all get the same tech at the same time. Only a race here or there will not get all the same techs. Plus it's not like they have all the older techs researched to begin with, I'm not sure why they dont expend resources on that.

I would really like it if there was some sort of randomization or different method so you dont just see like 16 techs unlocked at the first of the year, it makes your solar system feel scripted.

Its posible to having mutiple discovery event we should let it through? (plus I dont meet any of your problem on my last 2 games, 12 hrs++)

Well I've had them in my last 3 games =P. I'm not saying that multiple discoveries shouldn't happen but 8 races all discovering the same tech the day it is available (safer nuclear power in my last game) is a little excessive. And many of those races got 2 or 3 of the same techs together on that same day. You're going to have to do some convincing to get me to accept that 8 races discovered up to 3 of the same techs on the same day independently of eachother. That's not even likely if you gave them all like a 90% chance of discovering the techs. Especially when the burlust don't have vibroblades within the first 37 years while they've been getting invaded the entire time and all of a sudden get safer nuclear power the same day as everyone else.

It happens when they've got large stockpiles of Materials, I think. It happens alot when I have alot of trade routes going. Doesn't happen as much when I don't.

I also happen to see this regularly. I always credited this issue to the fact that all races have a sufficient science multiplier/research prowess/whatever at the time a new tech is unlocked in the tree, leading to the respective being immediately researched by all races.

Maybe the tech tree progression needs some tweaking to prevent this from occurring? The biggest difference I have seen in my games between unlocks for the first and the last race obtaining a tech was less than the duration of an average dispatch, say 20 months...

Definitely makes the game feel less diverse than it could be...

* The various orbital bombardment options were previously unlocking for all races pretty much as soon as they became available (on purpose), but this mechanic was confusing and in some respects unbalancing. Change this to no longer happen.
