Summary0015757: Counter-Sniper vs. Counter-Missile Inconsistency
DescriptionCounter-sniper and counter-missile coverage are treated differently in-game (check the screenshot):

One is an immunity (Sniper Shots), the other an ability (Counters Missiles). This is weird. (Without reading the ship description, I wouldn't even have realized such a ship could counter snipers.)

Suggestion: To make this behavior consistent, turn the immunity (Sniper Shots) into the ability (Counters Sniper Shots).
(Side benefit if this is done: one could easily design more "Counter Turrets", or ships with abilities to provide counter-coverage of other damage types.)

The sniper immunity tag is correct, only the "counters sniper shots" ability is missing in the description.

Yes, there are four different abilities ships may have:
[1] Immunity to sniper shots
[2] Immunity to missiles
[3] Counters sniper shots (protects all surrounding ships from sniper shots)
[4] Counters missiles (protects all surrounding ships from missiles)

All Scout Starships have [3] (and probably [1], but that's redundant to [3]), and the Mark IV version additionally has [4].

The problem you've identified is that "Counters Sniper Shots" is missing from the ship stats.

Okay, but don't the "Counter X" abilities cover the ship itself, too? So why would the immunity need to be listed as well?

I believe the difference is if it didn't have "Immune to Sniper" snipers could still fire at it, but would just be countered, but with the immunity tag they don't waste shots.

Kronic is correct. Immunity prevents an enemy from firing at your ship in the first place while countering means that the shots get intercepted and therefore wasted.
While the AI will sometimes stop targeting units that are protected by anti missile or anti sniper coverage and prefer other targets instead you can often see their missile frigates firing upon ships protected by anti missile when they are the only targets in range.
