Summary0015796: Starfield should be rendered behind nebulae
DescriptionI have no idea if this is a new thing, or if I'm just now noticing it, but starfields are rendered as though they appear in front of nebulae. Zoom out, pan around, and the effect is as if the starfield is painted on a flat pane of glass, with the nebulae far in the background.

The expected effect would be that the stars are more distant, or equally distant, as the nebulae. They should be rendered behind the nebulae, and maybe also pan around at, or near, the same speed.

Yep, this has been the case since 2010 or so. It's an aesthetic choice. I know it doesn't make sense, but scrolling the nebulae causes a lot more slowdown if we have to generate a ton of them, which we used to do. So we leave that static, but still wish to have some parallax effect so that you can tell you are scrolling. So that leads to scrolling stars but no scrolling nebulae.
