Summary0015927: Betrayal mode - New Hydral Political Options - Colonise moons, trade-routes/tarrifs and local deals
DescriptionCurrently you get all the 'friendly actions' available on your own world but none of the race specific 'local deals' and 'trade deals'. You are able to select Hydral as a trading partner on other worlds, but you are listed as 'anti-trade'.

I think it'd be interesting for a more pacifist betrayal run (no wars of aggression, lots of trade and turtling) If you had a way to change the Hydral stance to the other races. (like the different Andor Parliaments, queen moods etc.) I'd expect it to be costly and difficult to try playing such a pacifist in betrayal mode (how do you expect to win?!) But nevertheless, I thought I'd have a go at writing a little bit of the descriptive text for my suggestion. (for my own fun, but I thought I'd upload it here anyway). Hope you find it amusing or for it to inspire you to add some hydral deals.

Perhaps something like this:
Hydral Politics Overview:
"As the last remaining Hydral leading a race of mindless robotic servants your will is absolute. Unfortunately you still require some living subjects with specialist expertise for colonising moons. Trade too require other races to agree to deal with a terrifying multi-headed monster in control of said army of mindless slaves.
If you wish to colonise moons and set-up trade routes you'll have to work very hard to shake-off such a devastating level of bad publicity."

Local Deals
[Colonise moon] with [race] specialists. Requires influence of +50 per moon with that race. Also increases resources for the race in question.
"Mindless servants struggle with the unexpected challenges, unknown terrain and complex decision-making required in a pioneering project. You could give your mindless servants the ability to learn, grow and develop complex artificial intelligences of their own... but then keeping them as slaves could become a real problem.
No, it's much easier to get another race to do the specialist work for you. Unfortunately seeing you expanding and colonising all those moons may start to make people a little wary of what you'll do once you're run out of space. For that reason expect it to become increasingly difficult to convince others to help you colonise for any amount of credits... even when they take a cut of the moon's produce."
Credit cost scales with number of colonised moons, influence required scales with number of colonised moons. Moon output is shared with assisting race (as long as that race survives that is).

[Crack down on infighting] Requires influence of +50 with Thoraxians AND
Negative trend OR negative Public order
"Your mindless robotic servants never fight (each other). But with the increasing use of specialists from other races there is sometimes a need to return things to a calm, cold, emotionless equilibrium. Thoraxians are good at making people calm... technically dead is calm."
A significant credit cost is paid directly to the race providing assistance.

[Industrialise] Requires +200 influence with Andor or Acutians.
(OR, Requires their RCI to be higher than yours)
"Only a race with intimate knowledge of the blood and guts of robots (speaking figuratively) can really help improve your economy. It won't be easy to convince free-thinking robots to help a race of mindless automatons... not easy, but not impossible. Where there is a will there's a... what's the phrase? ...a mindless slave that could do the job instead. Or a greedy slave, bribes are ever so useful"
A significant credit cost is paid directly to the race providing assistance.

[Invest in Infrastructure] Requires +300 influence with [race]
"It's not easy to convince Thoraxians to show you how to build those lovely networks of underground tunnels oh so useful during planetary sieges... money helps... lots and lots and lots of money. Bribes are also good. I think you'll need both, and a bit of luck. I'm sure they'd rather build us a university instead, but the right contractor may have something special for us."
Pay credits and resources to [race] to receive a random building construction dispatch, the result of which may include unique buildings from that race.

[Invest in medicine] Requires +50 relations with [Race] AND [Race] lowest planet RCI for medical be > Hydral Planet medical RCI.
"The Hydral technology is obviously superior to all other races. That being said, your robot workers seem to have a few glitches in their programs. Perhaps it's an Evuck plot... I'm almost certain it's an Evuck plot. But whatever the reason you could use some help. The Andors and Acutians have skill with computer viruses, though most races seem to be developing electronic warfare departments of late... I wonder why?
It shouldn't take too much effort to convince another race to help, though they'll only be able to provide assistance if their medical rating is greater than our (normally) amazing medical rating."
A significant credit cost is paid directly to the race providing assistance.

[Prioritise the Environment] Requires +100 influence with [race] AND for [race] planetary environment > Hydral planet environment RCI.
"I know it seems that a race of mindless robots can safely survive a 2'C increase year on year. Unfortunately it's started to have some knock-on effects on our industry. No trees for a start, also those rolling clouds of sulphuric and hydrofluoric acid are both blotting out the sun and dissolving the bones of any organics that happen to be around. Naturally that isn't a problem for well-made machines... but not all of our machines are made equally. It's taking a lot of effort to create usable building land and much more effort to do... well, everything.
This may be a long-shot, but perhaps another race could be brought in to tidy up the place? Obviously they'd need extreme environmental suits, and the cost would be enormous... but my solar batteries are running near empty here."
A significant credit cost is paid directly to the race providing assistance.

Trade Deals
[Broker trade route] additional requirement +50 influence with [race]
"It's not easy to convince the world that trading with the evil monster is wise. Especially not while you're bombing worlds and destroying all sapient life. Not being at war with anyone will help, doing good deeds too... but mostly it comes down to money. Lots of money."
A significant credit cost is paid directly to the trading race and the route is cancelled upon wars of aggression.

[Impose trade tariff]
"Now that you suckered those... *ahem* Persuasively convinced our new trading partners of the mutually beneficial relationship our new agreement offers... don't you think it's time you taxed them? Taxed them a lot. Sure they aren't going to be happy about it but imagine the things that money could do for our economy just as all those resources begin to benefit our foreign aid armadas of doom. Doom to diseases and other dangerous nasty things... That Uranium would never be used for any tactical orbital nuclear missiles nor the Xenotime for ground penetrating Rods from God, aka high mass kinetic bombardment. A use where Xenotime's high-sectional density makes it the most efficient bunker-busting, inert, extremely rapid, low-radar profile weapon of choice for the orbital bombardment connoisseur.
No weapons at all... it's all peaceful. It'll make bunnies, not robotic death bunnies just regular ones. Really."

It's a possibility for much later if the expansion really takes off and this mode is very popular, but this is a pretty massive scope creep. ;)

Right now this has been designed as being more of a military mode.

I understand and agree that it works pretty well as is. Crush, bomb, laugh. (Perhaps it's a little easier on normal than normal is in the other modes, but there's always difficulties above normal for me to try. And it's a nice counter to the raised difficulty in the other new game mode)

If you come back to it in future though I think it'd be interesting. (especially if it's pushed to a future game/expansion where a big scope isn't a bad thing).
I suppose as an expansion it could reverse what people have come to expect with betrayal mode - it'd be like playing as the Andors. Though I think it'd need more than that description to win people over. And a new mechanic... say religion or corporations, something to spread peacefully onto other worlds rather than dropping in your robotic armies.
*shrugs*
I've lots of ideas. The hard part is knowing which are good. Or fun. Or easy. And time is always the hardest resource to account.
