Summary0016087: Error message in Log, particles missing (white boxes)
DescriptionThis happened in my first game, and now happens across all games. Anytime my ship hits another with a weapon, it stacks white boxes due to missing the particle effect needed. This is also appearing on the main map (a Skylaxian armada is fighting something? but all it shows are white boxes with a Skylaxian on top).

System:

MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2009)
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
Steam Version (2.011 per the game)

Please let me know if you need more info. I'll try to get a screenshot of the white boxes (if needed).

It is now happening with a great deal more particle files. I'm likely going to attempt an uninstall and reinstall.

Hi there -- I was seeing this on my Mac, briefly, as well. Only with the new loading process for asynchronous files, though. I later made some changes that seemed to solve it for me, and this definitely is an OSX-only thing, which is particularly bizarre to me.

All of the other ship animations are working correctly, right? Just the particle effects are messed up? Do you have a savegame where this is actively happening? I can take a look at it tomorrow on my mac and see if I can recreate this issue again. If I cannot, then I'll just pore over the code some and see if I can spot the difference in the particle effects versus the rest of the animations in the game. Presumably I'll find something, though why this only affects OSX is anyone's guess.

Thanks for your patience!

I've uploaded the save from the game it's happening in.

I'm noticing in every combat. The most recent was against the Burlast - I was seeing some exhaustXXX.png missing, but no white boxes. All hits (Energy Cannon, Gravity Lance, Minigun) from the Flagship to an enemy ship causes the white boxes, and missing files log entries.

I apparently didn't save when a combat was happening in the middle of space and the white boxes were appearing.

All other animations seem to be good and smooth.

Thank you for a good game! Between this, AI War and Skyward Collapse, you've kicked a lot of butt :-)

Let me know if I can help more. I'm still trying to get a screenshot of the issue, but it happens a bit quickly.

I'll also volunteer to run a debug build if it will help to nail it down.

Thanks! Knock on wood, should be fixed now -- thanks for your patience. http://arcengames.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=The_Last_Federation_Post-2.0_Release_Notes#Version_2.012

I have a feeling I know what was causing it, although it is still just a guess on my part. If it's still happening then I guessed wrong, but at least I did fix some other things either way. :)

2 things:

It seems to have fixed the problem. I now see particle effects.

The updater crashed TLF hard 3 times before it started working, and the version number in the upper left corner hasn't changed. Would you like me to open another bug against it?

Glad that worked! Whew. :)

For the game version number, sorry about that, I accidentally checked it in without incrementing that. That is now fixed.

As for why the updater gave you trouble a few times in a row, I'm not certain why that would be. Generally on the steam version you wouldn't need to use it anyway, though, as just restarting steam will queue the update for you automatically.
