Summary0016140: Graphics garbled at parts of the screen
DescriptionSee included screenshot for details.
Some parts of the screen are garbled, the textures don't show correctly. In other parts of the screen it is not an issue. Problem persists throughout the game (so it's also in the city screen).
Tried: full screen/windowed, different resolutions, vsync settings tweaked, driver settings tweaked, clean windows start. No effect.
Other Arcen games I own (AVWW, Tidalis) work fine.
Specs: Windows XP (as up2date as possible), ATI X1300 mobility (128Mb), Dell inspiron 6400 laptop with 1Gb internal. If more details are required I can upload report files.
Game is Steam version, steam overlay disabled.

Hmmm, that's really super strange, I've never seen one of our games do this before. It sounds like some sort of RAM issue, but it's hard to be sure.

Tidalis and AVWW both use a maximum size of 1024px textures, and their textures are all exactly square powers of two. That's not the case with our later games, which use up to 4096px textures, and which use both non-square and in some cases non-power-of-two textures.

That's almost never a problem, but with a laptop that is 9 years old that gets pretty tricky.

You may be able to solve the issue by forcing opengl: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/84203-Less-memory-usage-by-using-OpenGL

Beyond that it might be an issue with DirectX9.0c itself, I'm not sure.

To be fair, I've seen this kind of behavior (on my laptop) before with games that required more than 128Gb of GPU memory. That, together with your comments, leads me to believe that this is most likely to be a memory shortage issue. I just assumed that because BD runs off the same engine as AVWW it would work fine on my old laptop, so I should have tried the demo first I guess. Still, no biggy, I'll simply keep this one for my next PC. Thanks for looking into this. Case closed.
