Summary0001650: Counter-attack warp guard posts to give command stations external invincibility
DescriptionHere is the thing. Lots of people have been complaining about waves from nowhere, when in fact there was a counter attack warp post on that planet, they did not notice it, popped the home, and triggered it. Even if you know what happened, it is still annoying when you overlook it.
There is the obvious suggestion of adding a warning to the planet if it has a warp counter attack post (like the X number of enemy ships on this planet warning or something). However, I suggest a different idea.
Basically, the title of this post. Like the existing command shield posts. This way, you cannot kill the home until you have dealt with the counterattack warp post. This way, the implicit decision to trigger the wave (pop the home) is removed, and replaced with a strong hint that there is something important on that planet.

Sorry for the long description, but I wanted to give the motivation and reasoning behind this idea.

wouldnt some type of ai taunt or.. even just a chat message 'you have triggered a counterwave' be a MUCH better solution to this?

command shield posts are annoying enough as it is..

edit
or something like move counterwaves to an ai plot..
dont get me wrong, i love them and their great 'ill drop an insanely large inflated mk wave behind your defenses without a wave warning'-ness... (i play without wave warnings)
but many have, more importantly, asked for them to be an option.

@Lancefighter: Duh, a message telling you that you triggered an counter wave post. Why didn't I think of that? However, that still does not solve how hard it is to know that there is a counter wave post on a planet until it is too late.

I agree that Warp Counter Attack GP can very often end your game. They maybe need an icon more like a skull and crossbones. If the Entire system was a different color like the attrition emitter makes them as well as a a warning note in the system. I think part of the issue is the 4x wave size makes them often a game losing event, at least in my experience.

@Winter Born: A entire system coloring sounds like a better solution. Can you post that as a separate suggestion?

The problem with all this is that it opens the doors for "I want a icon for X" discussions. Scouting and careful assessment of the enemy's strength is a vital part of the game.

Still, afaik CounterPosts are sorted under the usual Posts in the system intel screen and its easy to not see them there. In effect they are at least as dangerous if not more dangerous than AI Eye and should be displayed in the upper half of the display where the juicy and scary stuff is mentioned.

The addition of a filter in the galaxy view to display Alarms, Ai Eyes, Counterposts and other Spawning stations would be extremely helpful too. Maybe two filters. One for structures that affect adjacent systems like the Raid Engine and one that affects only the system they are in.

I think the idea of having filters for those is a good one, nice thinking.

I don't mean to be rude or a glory hog, but I noticed on the release notes on the wiki, you credited winterborn for this idea, even though I came up with the idea.

Not a problem -- I'd not seen this report, actually, and had the idea based on something Winter Born said. I've updated the notes, though, to give credit to you for suggesting and him for inspiring the change. :)
