Summary0017030: 870 Disease Balance
DescriptionStarting another collection of disease saves.

Save 870 Evuck 3 new disease
The first disease started with 100 with 17% infection rate. I had 1-3 hospitals and immediately turned on quarantine, toxin screening, and birth screening. The second turn it popped up to 125. After that the number of infected increased, but more slowly, eventually the disease ended without more than 200 people being infected at once.

Save 870 Evuck 4 new disease
The second disease's initial infection was only 1 person.

870 evuck 3 save
One, quarantine doesn't immediately stop the spread. It slows it to a stop. The disease was parasites so you only need quarantine up (genetic for genetic/ toxin for toxin). I don't see anything unusual with it.

save 4... now that one is unusual.

The 870 Evuck 3 save issue was: I gained 25 infected cases, but I should have gained fewer than that, even if cures weren't working.

Look at the SS I posted up here. 16.8% infectiousness and 7% of new births get the disease. Also you have 189 births coming (roughly) that where then inhibited by your actions taken.

Trying to make educated inferences for the last turn, and first round actions against diseases aren't super effective.

It could have been around 30 new cases had you taken no action at all.
Disease progression as I see it 100-125-133-136-133-125-111 on down the way.

You can see when quarantine hits full effect (3rd turn here). I have no idea if stacking all 3 measures actually works for every disease. Even if the only benefit is cutting you birthrate, you should have to pay for each program fully.

Birth rate is 189. However, I had genetic screening on, which cuts it to 25.
So, here is the possible math that I see.

Infection spreading 100 * .17 = 17
Infection at birth:
189 * .07 = 13 (full birth rate)
or 25 * .07 = 2 (reduced birth rate)
or 25 * 0 = 0 (if genetic screening works)

Totals are 30, 19, or 17 compared to the actual net gain of 25.

Cure base is 24. With the ramp up effect of cures that's 1-3 actual cures, perhaps in this case it was 5? That would have the math add up if the genetic screening wasn't working and it was operating on all potential births.

So what happened? It would have been nice if I had saved as soon as I got the disease to test this. However, I think the if structure for combinations of disease controls isn't quite right. Specifically, when Screening AND quarantine are active.

If none of the disease tools are used then (with 24 cures per turn):
100, 125(all disease tools on +25), 160 (+35), 201 (+41), 249 (+48), 305 (+56)..

If only genetic screening
100, 125 (all disease tools +25), 153 (+28), 186 (+33),...

If only quarantine
100, 125 (all disease tools +25), 134 (+9), ...

If quarantine and genetic screening
100, 125 (all disease tools +25), 133, (+7), ...

Summary
If no disease controls + 35 (should be 21.25 + 13 - cures, checks out)
If genetic screening + 28 (should be 21.25 + 7 - checks out IF screening doesn't reduce birthrate infection)
If quarantine + 9 (some value, quarantine reduces spreading by some value that increases)
if quarantine and screening +7 (some value - 1-3 - cures (this checks out with above if genetic screening doesn't work))

I don't think quarantine/ GS/TS work that well on the first turn they are turned on. This process gets some better visibility next update though.

I'm marking this one as fixed because it was in the old disease model, and anything that's still around is unrelated now. Thanks!
