Summary0017546: Plagues overly deadly
DescriptionAt the moment, plagues seem to have far too much impact if you aren't prepared for them. The main issue stemmed from damage caused by sick people requiring repairs that ate all my money, with no way to stop the repairs. Greater management of repair expenses would alleviate this, and be a better solution that weakening plagues in my opinion.

Don't worry about this stuff Chris: It might be intentional that a newer person who doesn't have hospitals set up instantly looses when a plague starts, but it seems overly harsh. I just got my first plague, and I instantly spent all my money on a hospital, and a few turns later, everything that had come in on a second. However, at that point it was impossible to win because the sick people were damaging buildings, and apparently despite having only my lander to repair (in another territory) it was draining all of my income to repair (20k income), and thus it was impossible for me to ever get any more hospitals, and since the infection rate was higher than my hospitals could handle (it had grown a fair bit due to the very long construction time of hospitals, even with half a dozen construction yards). I couldn't disable the buildings because of the sick people, and thus couldn't stop all my money being thrown away on repairs.

I haven't experienced such an event yet in my games. perhaps it was added only for a much later act and you got it by a bug much sooner? how do you get a plague?

Seems to be a random event that some of your people get some disease. It is really only a plague in that I didn't have any hospitals up, and because it took me 10 turns to build one with about 6 construction yards, it was beyond me being able to fix by the time the hospitals came online, in other words more people were being infected per turn than cured, and because damages were draining all my money, I had no means of building any additional hospitals.

If I'd had a hospital to start it likely would have been 2-3 turns of minor annoyance, but since I didn't, it was instant game over, and that seems like far too harsh of a distinction.

One thing to start:

* The cost of repairs has been dropped to 1/5th its prior value. It seems to have been hitting a lot harder than intended. Having a cost is good, but not one that is so darn unpleasantly high.

* New disease infections should actually be on a sensible amount of population now; previously there were some math errors that made it so that they could hit way more population than intended.


ALSO, the related issue then tones it down a lot more based on infections in general, thus giving you more time to deal with things. I'm going to go ahead and mark this as closed, therefore, BUT with the understanding that non-hospital-having players might still get wrecked unfairly. It's really hard for me to say at this point; I _think_ it's going to be way less likely at the very least, but it might need further changes in a later build.
