Summary0022546: "AIP Changed +20 due to capturing Siva" - not fair/correct
DescriptionMarauders destroyed the AI. I settled the quadrant. Why does that put +20 AIP? That's totally not fair.

Afterwards I did notice that the tooltip in the map says capturing it would add 20 AIP... But that is highly non-intuitive.

I'm pretty sure this only happens if you have "minor factions do not incur AI Progress" enabled.

Why is that not fair? It was fairly silly that you could just let Marauders destroy the Station then capture planets for free.

There should be no way, far as I know, to get out of paying the AIP for a planet, regardless of who clears it.

If an allied faction does it, you get the AIP directly even if you don't capture it. You can disable that in settings but it does make the game much easier.

In universe lore: if you wind up with territory the AI had, you wind up paying for it in AIP. They notice the new landlords and are angry at you about it. Logical.

Game practicality: there is no penalty for taking things from other factions. They do as they do. They can aggro the AI with their own AIP, just like you do. But it's super easy to help one out who is hostile to the AI and you, then come in and sweep what they took, and you could absolutely break the entire game. The game 100% hinges on you not ever getting a planet without paying the AIP cost, ever. In this case, the faction got AIP and so did you when you then took it from them.

All factions are not equal, nor are they meant to be. You're only at war with the AI, in the main. Some of the factions are OP, others underpowered, compared to you or the AI. And they throw all sorts of interesting monkey wrenches into the works. But the entire game centers around the cost of taking a planet being AIP, and being able to cheese around that would be so game-breaking that we could never have other factions capture planets if you didn't get the charge. It's the central currency of the game.

We had to actually put in a lot of work to make this happen, it's not some accident; it was exploitable to the point you could just not bother playing the game remotely realistically and have next to infinite science at no aggro cost to the AI, plus all the metal and energy you could want, etc. This game breaks bad when you don't have AIP costs, so things working this way is the cost of having other factions at all. There's no way they could all be balanced the same as the AI, and even if they could that would be more boring than having some OP and some underpowered, etc.

And thematically, really, AIP is a matter of the AI's notice of you. If you capture a quadrant from the guys who just whooped THEIR butts, I think they are going to notice you. People think of it as a rage-o-meter, but that's only partly true. If you take out the emotive side, it's really just how much they prioritize you versus their extra-galactic endeavors. Somebody who just took over a giant chunk of the galaxy gets a lot of notice. That other faction got the same notice (and has the same AIP against them) that you do, for what it's worth.

@x4000Bughunter You should put this reply into the manual/wiki. Thanks.
