The simplest possibility that comes to mind is the ability to set a "prioiritize targets near location X when choosing what units to attack" in the targeting code; the challenges are A. giving a UI for this and B. adding tons of "How far is this unit from X" might cause performance issues.

If I'm understanding it correctly, this is an issue of "I tell the fleet to go do stuff here, but the Flagship is charging in. I don't want the Flagship to charge in." So I would...guess at a toggle in the Fleet Menu, just like the "Flagship Movement Mode", in which case if the FLEET is selected, the Flagship doesn't move if the fleet is unloaded, i.e in combat. |

The way a lot of games do it is to have an attack-move command on something like alt-click or A+click, meaning "go here, kill everything in the way, and when you get there, hang around menacingly and destroy anything near you". A similar command in AIW2 would behave similar to a direct attack command in that it would leave noncombatant ships life the fleet transport out of the order. |

There is an Attack Move stance currently. |

I know that, but it doesn't affect flagship movement. If I set a fleet to attack-move mode and then order it to move somewhere, the flagship goes with it (as it should do, because having to take the whole fleet out of attack-move mode to get the flagship to go anywhere would be obnoxious).
I mentioned it because, in most other games, attack-move isn't a stance toggle for units, it's an alternate type of move command. |

In 0022390 from some while back, I said this: "I suggest new movement modes to move only the ships or only the centerpiece when you've selected a fleet. These could be done via something like the Ctrl-RightClick used for wormhole navigation, only using Shift and Alt (or whatever). "
I don't have a better idea yet, but I also haven't yet seen any reason why this wouldn't work. Thoughts? I like this better than the idea of a toggle in the menu, because it's easier to use. |

There are a couple of options for this now, like the stationary flagship mode. |
