Summary0023912: Dyson Sentinels are ridiculously powerful in player hands
DescriptionThey pack way more punch than their strength rating implies. If I hack the Dyson Sphere for 6 or 7 of these ship-lines and extend them using Fleet Extenders then almost nothing short of the AI camping on wormholes, or mass Fortified Tesla can stop them (and fixed defences can easily be micro'd around). It's a fairly all-in strategy, but it's a reliable way to get an enormous amount of firepower, the AI barely considers it a threat on its own, and their low health is usually not an issue. Tier 1 Exo-units are vaporised in a single volley with this strategy, and Tier 2 Exo-units don't fair much better. At 6 fleet-lines you'll have 120*6*13000 = 9.36 million damage per volley, and that gets even more ridiculous if you get more or get Inciting Parasites; it's a bit silly is what I'm saying. At least the Dyson Defenders have a long cooldown between shots (and much lower damage to start with), but these fire fairly fast as well.

I agree, their damage is mad and their strength doesn't take this into account at all. It is also easy to farm many ship lines with them.

I think the core problem with issues like this is the strength rating being off in some circumstances. It basically combines health with damage so anything that is low on either end is going to be undervalued.

Hmm. I thought the number of lines you could hack from the Sphere was supposed to be limited?

If there is a limit, I have not run into it yet. It seems only a matter of how much time and hacking points you have.

Nah, there's no limit on the dyson. There is on the Dark Spire.

I don't know that I'm heartbroken about this; if you want to spend hours and hours farming the Dyson I don't really think it's fun to prevent that. Each time you hack the dyson it stays antagonized for longer.

Here are my changes to make this less appealing.
1. Each time you hack a dyson sphere, the antagonized sphere gets more powerful
2. The Antagonized Dyson Sphere now attritions all enemies on its planets
3. The Antagonized Dyson Sphere now takes the safest path to the player homeworld, not the most direct.

If there is going to be a limit on the amount of ship-lines you can get from a Dyson Sphere, then you could also decrease the amount of ships it gives you per hack, but allow these ships to level up with the Flagship like the Dark Spire ships currently do. If not, then you'd probably need to add a journal entry explaining why that mechanic works lore-wise for the Dark Spire, but not the Dyson ships. Otherwise you'll get people asking why it works for one, but not the other.

I don't think it's necessary to explain every single difference in mechanics. The DS are very different from the Dyson.

I'm also going to reduce the number of sentinels you can get from hacking the dyson too.

Fair enough.

Those changes to the Antagonised Dyson Sphere actually reminded me of something I was thinking about yesterday and forgot. After many hacks the response from the normal Dyson Sphere during the hack was more overwhelming than the response from the Antagonised Dyson Sphere. That problem should longer exist now, so that's a really good fix.

Should be improved

@GreatYng Dark spire ships do not level up with the flagship.

That could be true, because I haven't tested it myself.
I just got that from the bugfixes part of the changelog at version 2.605, because that mentions having to use fleet upgrades.
