Summary0024040: Add a "Performance Rating" system to the game
DescriptionThe purpose of this would be to give players some kind of indication of their level of achievement upon victory. Based on a range of variables, the player is assigned a rating of their performance at the end of their game. An excerpt from a Discord discussion with some ideas is pasted below for reference:

Badger:
One interesting possibility would be to have the game do a calculation for "How hard do we think this game was"

so beating a difficulty 8 might be 10 points. If you were facing a 6 scourge too, that's +6

It would leave options for things like "I beat a difficulty 100 campaign. I had 5 AIs and 10 scourge and a 10 dark spire and still won"

Chris:
Being able to say "your performance was X" in this game is a nice thing.

Saying "okay, you won against difficulty 8, but you had a major assist there from the scourge, so your overall rating on this is 6.6" would be meaningful. And similarly, "okay, you won on difficulty 5, but the scourge made your life hell, so this was basically an 8.3"

I think that just identifying what factions are in the game and giving some sort of impact rating is not going to do it justice if we really go down this rabbit hole.

We track all the kills and losses of every faction, and so being able to base things off of that is probably a better approach.

Tzarro:
Maybe something . . . that could also somewhat alter the victory text contextually.

Chris:
If you have an "amazing" ally in a intensity 8 allied scourge, but for some reason they have just the worst luck and are spent largely in the corner and irrelevant while you duke it out... you should not be penalized. If your intensity 3 scourge comes in and just absolutely cleans up because of good luck, you should not be praised extra for it.

That's a good point on the victory text.

I think that something basic based on the total strength killed by you in terms of your enemies, versus those killed by enemies-of-your-enemies is a large part of it. And maybe how many losses you took from sources other than the main AIs.

If we start getting into more complex ideas like WHEN kills happened, which can realistically be super critical, then I think it gets way out of scope for now.

Obviously there are a lot of details to be fleshed out should a feature like this be implemented, but I'm creating this ticket upon request by Chris for future reference.

I don't quite get it, what's the purpose?
If I add a faction that makes my game easier, I already know that it'll make my game easier.
If I add a faction that makes my game harder, I already know that it'll make my game harder.
If I add a faction which I'm not yet familiar with, I'll figure out by playing the game if it made my game easier or harder.

The experience of how the game develops can never be properly portrayed by some generic number/rating that is likely impossible to accurately display performance in a meaningful way anyway, given how many factors play a role in this game, including map seed and strategy.

Also, it would be pretty pointless as a means to compare victories between players, because there's just too many settings to offer a meaningful comparison, unless compared scores/ratings are from identical settings, including the map and what's seeded on it.

I love the mentioned idea of flavored victory texts though, but that's another topic.

Some people really like to quantify things.

Something other than just "achievements" to encourage pushing specific use of certain minor factions or difficulty settings sounds interesting to me! Like Badger says, some people like numbers even if they don't really mean anything.

I like the idea, but Ymir raises good points about its difficulty. Probably something to think about, but kick down the road.
