Summary0025250: Feature Request: Option to tun off wormhole invasions
DescriptionI would love to regularly play the game on difficulty 7+, as I kinda find difficulty 6 too easy, but I can't stand the wormhole invasions (the ones where the AI can attack planets behind your lines, that they wouldn't normally be able to reach) that come with playing on those higher difficulties. Rather than making the game more challenging in an entertaining and engaging way, I find that they just make it frustrating and unfun for me.

So, I would love to have the option to disable wormhole invasions at any AI difficulty (at least in the lower-difficulty campaign types - I assume they'd still be force-enabled in Expert and Deathwish). Preferably as a game setup option, but I'd also be satisfied if there was at least a way to disable them in-game (e.g. by destroying or hacking a particular structure on a heavily-defended AI world). It would seriously make the game a lot more enjoyable for me if this option was available.

(P.S.: I'm logged in with my Steam account, but I bought the game on GOG, so it wouldn't show up as owned on my Steam account if that's something you're able to check. Just don't want you to think I pirated it or anything.)

This is a bit weird because most of the feedback we've gotten is that wormhole invasions are toothless and need to happen more often and to be stronger when they do happen

I would also really like to see this option in the game. Making strongholds at tactical positions often feels like a useless endeavor if the ai is simply able to bypass it without any way to prevent it.

Huh... weird. I could have sworn that AI Wormholes was an actual configurable option along time ago. Maybe that got removed by accident. I'm fairly sure it'd be pretty easy to re-add.

You CAN disable them in game. You can use a flagship to shut down the wormhole early with a hack. Costs a pretty decent chunk of Hack points to do so though.

But i do agree with Badger in that wormhole invasions were jokes. i could just create bastion choke points that the AI had no hope of ever breaching, preventing hunter from even being considered a threat at all. Wormhole Invasions force me to either defend against the WI, or sacrifice economy for safety, buying the AI time to do whatever it wants to, such as synchronizing a wave and hunter to breach one of my bastion choke points. IMO they are a nice way for the AI to counter choke points alongside the wormhole borers. You are given a 10 minute grace period, the same amount of time as a CPA, even on difficulty 10 to prepare for the wormhole invasion to spawn units, so it's not like it's entirely unfair.

I can see this being a good option to have in Humanity Ascendant and Sandbox Modes.

I normally just build a military post and forget about it until it disappears and I can turn the planet back into an eco one or whatever.

I like the option specially for more casual chill games, but I also agree that the wormhole invasions could use a buff. Something that would make me recall a fleet or at least pay some attention to them rather than being a temporary energy drain with turrets and forget.

I would like to have this as an option too as wormhole invasions feel like a chore or an additional need for babysitting.

It's not that I find wormhole invasions *too hard* to deal with; it's more just that I find them annoying and demoralizing - a chore, as crawlers said.

(I wrote a bunch more about the issue a minute ago, but then an error ate my post, and I don't have the energy to write it all out again. The above sums up my feelings about it.)

You could always buff wormhole invasions while *also* adding an option to disable them.

I think it could be useful to broaden this into a discussion about other core AI mechanics and what modes they should be optional in. I.e., Wormhole Invasions are currently in the same always-on box as CP
As, waves, hunter/warden/praetorian fleets as well? If so, should that be the case on Sandbox only, or also available on the default Humanity Ascendant.

An option to disable wormhole invasions is in the game.
