Summary0003585: Version of lion statues for The Deep that come to life and start attacking you when you are near.
DescriptionSince these statues should be very familiar and boring to players by the time they reach the deep, this should be quite a surprise the first time they see this happen!

Hey, at least the moon isn't falling on you or something like that.

Hahaha. Yeah, and these also aren't instant-death. :)

It also occurs to me that The Deep is a good place to have "the lens can't quite fully protect you from the vortex here" situations. Obviously not wanting to pile art load on you, but if you wanted to have fun with disorientation and hallucinations and so on, sounds like this would be the place to do it.

So Lava Flats can be IWTBTG-land and The Deep can be Silent Hill land ;)

That's a really good point!

I'm also thinking that I will visually redesign The Deep quite a lot, so that it's easier to see what the heck is going on. And probably so that it's a lot more varied, including twisted versions of many other types of regions.

That way I can throw all of my silent hill impulses into The Deep, like you suggested, and it can be an entire game within a game as time goes on.

I like that a lot, good thought! :)

Yea, and there could be other zone types that have varying "mental climates", so it doesn't all have to be piled on this one. But the conceptual basis of "The Deep" regions being the strongholds/enclave of Fallen Ilari shortly after the Great Darkness fell (but before the strongholds fell entirely into the unseen world) certainly makes it the most appropriate region type for real mind-twisting thus far :)

Oh, you bet. :)

Oh -- and the idea of the Fallen Illari really does make for a similar premise as to the whole Silent Hill idea anyway. I really like the idea of having a PG-rated horror game stuck down here in the middle of our larger adventure game. So, there's nothing sexual, or gory, or whatever, but it's scary and dark and frightening all the same.

Oh yea, these guys are bad, bad dudes. Partly because they used to be good. But they're not physical beings and don't have any interest in sexuality, nor in decorating things with entrails.

Right -- exactly my sort of villain. :)

I'm writing a bunch of stuff for Erik right now but I should note this now:
- Elura: the whole group of spirits created by the Lightbringer (the person sent by his master to bring sentient life to Environ) to serve as intermediaries between him and the creatures on the elemental planes and the "main" plane.
- Ilari: the subset that stayed "on" Environ when the Lightbringer left during the events that led up to the Great Darkness.
- Guardians: Ilari that are friendly to humans. Some are trying to serve the Lightbringer and his master, some don't really care about that and are just humanistic.
- Dark Ilari: Ilari that are generally hostile to humans, but not really all that insane or anything like that. More Machiavellian than anything. Not good neighbors, though.
- Fallen Ilari: Ilari that rebelled against the Lightbringer many years before the Great Darkness (though others fell after that, including the time around that event). Some are still fairly level-headed but most have basically lost it to some degree or another. Very powerful, very erratic.

Nice. :)

Thanks for including that here, that's great. :)
