Summary0003594: New spellscroll: Healing foxfire.
DescriptionThis is a green flaming entity that you can summon wherever your mouse cursor is. It heals the first friendly character to collide with it. This is my version of a targeted heal spell, because you can't directly target allies (and I don't want to get into fiddly-ness with trying to).

I'm figuring players will want the ability to direct target allies (Q+Tab or something like that), as well as neutrals (W+Tab or Z+Tab, maybe). But maybe it won't be a big deal.

Eh, I guess we could do that. For keyboard targeting, that would work, and would make sense, but for the mouse it still has to be something that can be placed in a certain location without having it be literally setting a TargetEntity of the ally. That way the keyboard and mouse can both easily accomplish the same thing without adding targeting to the mouse.

Right, I didn't mean to change what you planned for this spell, just noting that you're likely to run into that request.

In my WoW experience you could either heal by clicking the ally's character in game-space (though that was quite iffy to get right in a hard fight), click their icon/name on the party display, or tab through them or have a key bound directly to "cast heal on Jim", etc.

Good notes on WoW. I think we can accomplish something simpler here, since this is 2D, but I'm not averse to building in more complex stuff as requests come in and we have clearer requirements for that sort of thing.

Right, and we're (to my knowledge) not having finely tuned group roles and fights and whatnot. If you're wanting to support a "tank/healer/dps" division of labor in co-op then this sort of thing becomes more important.

But other than that, just having the ability to target by mouse or direct targeting should satisfy everyone.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on having full-scale raids and so on MMO-style. Of course we might get to that point someday, but I'm not an MMO player and so it's a bad idea to start out with me trying to design it that way.
