Summary0005782: Health chests spawning in destroyed basement
DescriptionJust found a destroyed basement that had two health chests in it. Not really a huge issue, but it does run counter to the standard rule of never finding anything of interest in these rooms.

Edit: Also found a monster spawner in a destroyed boss room. And it's playing the boss music instead of the destroyed room music.

Do you have the world file with both of these issues still showing?

Can you tell me what a "health chest" is, just so I know, as well?

Sorry, no save for it at the moment. I realized after I broke the chests that I probably should have saved first.

And by health chest I mean the little chests that periodically spawn in basements and when broken they spit out a handful of health orbs. I forget the exact name now. I think these are typically found in basements in abandoned town zones. I'll go see if I can reproduce it.

Hmmm, I'm really not sure what those would be, I'm not aware of any such chests, heh. But when it comes to random background objects spawning in destroyed rooms -- that part is by design. The same sort of furniture you might find in the room if it wasn't destroyed will still seed in the destroyed versions. Those usually don't have much in terms of actual utility, though sometimes they do.

The name of the item is 'Small Chest' and they definitely do spawn in basements in abandoned town regions. Just looking for a destroyed basement now to see if I can reproduce the original report.

Oh, found it! Thanks for the name -- I had forgotten completely that was in there.

Anyhow, yes, furniture that is randomly seeded is valid for destroyed rooms, so that's working as intended, anyhow.

Found one and uploaded it... and just now saw that it wasn't a bug anyway. Oh well, it's not exactly game breaking to maybe have a slight chance of getting some health orbs if you duck into a destroyed basement.

If it's a small chest, it's basically furniture. You shouldn't be getting health orbs from furniture, AFAIK.

Oh really? Should I bug report that then?

Actually, no. I just found out I was wrong, that sometimes the small chests do give orbs or shards.

Just for the sake of completeness, let me note here that destroyed hallways can also spawn vases which drop clay, once again going against the 'nothing useful here' mantra.

Let me rephrase the "nothing useful" thing, then: it doesn't seed anything that the game seeds as actual rewards. Nothing like consciousness shard caches, stash rooms, enchant containers, fomerly gems or gem dust, etc. Those are all things that mapgen that seeds as rewards, and it meters them out.

What you're describing is all background decoration -- furniture. The mapgen doesn't know or care what is being seeded with those. It's like the trees that drop wood or walnuts, those get layered in after mapgen during the population stages. The only difference between finding a random chair that you can destroy, and a vase or a small chest, is that the latter drop some easily-findable materials -- like trees dropping wood -- whereas the former do not. But still I just view those as furniture.
