Summary0006019: Tactical Vision
DescriptionSpell: Tactical Vision

Upon cast, all enemies on screen display a red crosshair or otherwise highlight any weak spot they may have. Does not identify the weak spot effect, only the location.

This might be too powerful for a spell, maybe a scroll?

Or maybe a rare enchant. I like it.

I like this as a rare enchant, for sure.

(Actually, you've just reminded me: aren't there games in the world where you can't even see enemy health until you've granted yourself a certain enchant-or-equivalent? Personally I always quite liked the sense of progression that endowed, although it may not be appropriate here.)

I like the general notion of such a thing, but I'm not sure what the value of this rare enchant would be, unless enemies get random weak spots, or there are countless enemies, each with its own weak spot (which isn't easy to find by just shooting). You'd quickly learn the weak spots of enemies, and then this enchant would be useless.

Regarding zebramatt's health idea -- yes there are such systems, but unless the upgrade happens early on, it gets pretty annoying. At the very least, there should be an indication of 'barely hurt, wounded, close to death' without the enchant.

I think I agree with Bluddy with regards to making this an enchant. It is fairly simple to learn where the weak spots are at this time.

As a spellgem, this has slightly higher merit. Would it be a cast to go on cast to go off drain mana while on spell? Or would it be timed for a certain amount of time after you cast it.

I think the point of it as a (rare) enchant is that you would instantly know weakspots from the first moment you meet a new enemy.

With the growing complexity of bosses and the like in future, it could be quite useful for people who want to, for example, forgo lots of health upgrades in favour of boosting their character's attack stat - glass cannon types - but still want to dive straight into boss fights with a certain reckless abandon.

That's why I'm saying - you'd need a huge proliferation of enemy types and probably even then, to randomize the weak spots - for this to be worthwhile. Right now, you can shoot the legs of a skelebot to slow it down, or its head to do double damage. I think one more enemy has weak spots and that's about it. But if bosses had weak spots that were randomized, and especially if going back to fight the same boss would randomize the weak spots, you'd suddenly really want something to tell you where the weak spots are.

I have to agree that making it a spell or an enchant makes it less useful the more you have it. It only takes one cast to ascertain the weakspots of a certain type of enemy, and without a HUGE number of enemy types or randomizing weakspots there's no reason to cast it again for that enemy type.

Making it a scroll or other consumable, however, would fix this I believe. If it's rare enough, you may stockpile one or two for use in a overlord battle or enemy type you haven't encountered yet, but you aren't going to be blasting it off every chunk. It becomes a tactical commodity that you have to make a decision when you use it, and I think that creates some interesting gameplay.

What about if it was an enchant tertiary attribute?
