| Description | I just completed a lava escape mission. Afterward, the number under my character continued rising (though lava itself does not appear to be rising anymore). Also, as I drop down deeper back into the cave, the number decreases, and then continues rising again when I stop falling. | ||||

You have it backwards -- the number under your character is how close it is to you. Once you win the mission, the lava starts to recede, meaning that the distance increases. That lets you actually find the exit if the lava had gotten to cover it, etc. All is well. :) |
