Summary0006327: Ball of Light is "brighter" during the day.
DescriptionWhilst, inferring from a discussion about darkness from earlier, there might not be much you can do about this.

as it say ball of light fades to transparent nothingness during the night, but turns bright during the day.

Ideally the behavior should be flipped.

Also terrain cannot be made any brighter at night while entities do light up which looks fairly ugly.

I quite like entities lighting up personally, at least with Light Snake it has a "shining your torch in the dark" feel to it.

It is technically impossible to light the terrain, just FYI. For the entities lighting up, I quite like the way it looks also. The only alternative would be to not light them at all, like the terrain, but I think that would look worse.

Regarding the core complaint, that's definitely a bug and thanks for bringing it up. :)

Oh, so the night darkness is not the same as the interior darkness?

"Oh, so the night darkness is not the same as the interior darkness?"

Nope, otherwise you get strange things like the sky getting blacked out. The night darkness applies a diffuse darkening to all objects and the ground, etc. Underground and inside, it actually uses a circular image overlay on every third tile, and each one has a "how much have I been lit" counter on it, which makes those overlays fade.

Even at night, the "underground darkness" is used for the surface tunnels, but that combines to still make it dimmer down there. The problem in this bug report is that the light ball is being dimmed like other objects by the night offset, whereas it should not be. I just have to change its shader type and that will stop.
