Summary0006552: Stealth assassination in cave spawning red fairy bosses with too much HP
DescriptionAs I understand them, stealth assassination missions should spawn bosses that die in just a few hits. This one has spawned a whole pack of red fairies (which may be intentional, although I've never seen a fairy pack as the target) and instead of having a small HP pool, they each have close to 50,000 HP, which seems pretty huge for this mission type. The extra damage you take in these missions makes this basically an impossible fight. This is on tier 3 and on +1 difficulty.

Be careful loading the save by the way, my character is on a teeny sliver of HP and will probably die in about 2 seconds. :D

...did it on my first try.....

Though I usually play on The Chosen One so that might not be indicative

But, these are very possible, even with you already mostly dead.

Edit: Sorry, I took it as a challenge.

It probably is, but I don't see this as at all fun so I couldn't be bothered to try. I hate the fairies already, I hate the red fairies twice as much, and I hate red fairies with stupidly inflated HP that have mission damage multipliers most of all.

But congratulations to you, I am fed exing you a cookie.

My point is you hating doesn't make them a bug.

Bosses in the stealth missions are supposed to be uber fragile -- he's right that it's a bug. And you're really kicking a hornets' nest with him at the moment, though props on that skill. ;)

4 shots each with a tier -1 spell is pretty fragile

I'm honestly not sure how many shots each they normally take nowadays. I think that the stealth ones are supposed to be 10x lower health on the bosses, though, and I doubt the fairies take 40 shots with a tier-1 spell normally. Or if they do, THAT needs to be changed.

Definitely a bug then, my tier 2 fairies have 60,000 health normally, but that is on The Chosen One, so lower difficulty stealth boss shouldn't be anywhere near it.

Excellent, thanks for confirming.

What tier 1 spell were you 4 shotting fairies with 52,000 HP with? Because I want one of those!

that's tier -1(so a tier 2 spell versus tier 3 bosses), and the energy pulse spell you had in your inventory.

Now that I'm home and can check it, I still don't know what you're talking about. Even if I replace the mana conserving enchant with a +40% light enchant, you only get energy pulse just above 8k damage per shot. That's not going to get you to 52k damage in 4 shots, unless we're using that new math.

Edit: So I found another one of these and tried it out. It may just be a display bug. The fairies are dying in only a few shots, far less than their HP bars imply. I never actually tried shooting them before, since I blundered into a pile of them and was at such low HP when I uploaded that save.

No save for it this time, but I just came across a tier 4 green amoeba target for a stealth assassination mission with 164,000 HP. Pretty sure this time it actually had the full HP, because it wasn't dying fast. And it was in a tiny room...I have to go choose another character now.

Are assassination bosses low on HP or do they take bonus damage? I could swear they take way more damage than normal from your spells so their HP looks bigger than it is.

I thought they had shorter HP bars, but now I can't find anything in the patch notes history to tell me either way. The patch that introduced the missions just gave a basic description of them, not the detailed mechanics of the missions.

I was under the impression that the stealth mission increased your damage rather than decreasing the enemy health, but only about 2-3x, if they are supposed to die 10x quicker then there is still a bug somewhere.

But this was based solely off the fact that you clearly do more damage than your spell claims.

Speculating wildly here, but maybe what they did was, functionally, give the enemies a "+% damage taken" enchant and when the calculations were redone it cut those as well.

Edit: alright, having investigated properly, on The Chosen One at least

Enemy health is definitely unchanged, the normal red fairies group and stealth red fairies group both had health in the same range. (48-62,000)

Damage that they take is definitely multiplied by exactly 3

Edit 2: Checked on Hero as well, both still apply. Edit 3: For clarity, The hero difficulty groups both had a health range of 20-25,000

I guess 3x is intended then, 10x may have been the stacking modifiers bug.

"Speculating wildly here, but maybe what they did was, functionally, give the enemies a "+% damage taken" enchant and when the calculations were redone it cut those as well."

That is exactly it, actually. It doesn't change enemy health at all. The increase is 200%. Does it need to be more?

If you run into a stealth assassination boss that's taking normal damage instead of higher-than-normal damage, please add the save here :)

Once I actually attacked some fairies instead of running from them while clutching my skirt, I realized that they're quite beatable. The green amoeba that I found that didn't seem to be dying very fast may have been a problem, but I died without saving anything that time. Once the next patch goes in and we have the combat log, it will help to quantify these sorts of issues.

At least, I think it will... will it also log your own recent outgoing damage? Because right now we don't really have an easy way to tell exactly how much damage we're doing after modifiers for weaknesses and such are applied.

Assassination missions are pretty easy at it stands, so I would say that it is fine the way it is, but then I don't really want the bosses to be instant kills.

If instant kills is the idea, one thought that occurred to me was to increase the damage significantly but only on players touch range spells. That would make taking out the boss more challenging and interesting than it is now.

Ok, optimistically marking as resolved then. If you later see a bug with it not taking increased damage, or simply a balance issue with the assassinationee being too tanky, bring it back up :)
