Summary0006980: Mana-regeneration spell idea
DescriptionI was thinking a bit about how to make high-mana characters a bit less tedious to play, since the flat-rate regeneration means they take forever to regain mana. How about a spell? "Mana Fount" or something (sorry, not much good at names :P).

5% mana regeneration per second, at the cost of 2X damage taken. Competes with the various elemental mana shields, so they can't be on at the same time (thus preventing eternal shield-use). If that isn't enough, perhaps it could also increase detectability or something, so homing-enemies would zero in on the player from further away. It makes sense, sort of, assuming it's possible. If you're spitting out tons of magical energy, someone's bound to notice.

High-mana characters would have far less downtime, but would be discouraged from using it in combat. High-health, low-mana characters could still find it useful as well, but generally IN combat, since the 2X damage-taken would be less of a problem in exchange for keeping on the offense longer. And no one would use it around long drops and lava. :D

Didn't comment on this earlier because i couldn't put to words what made me have mixed feelings about this idea, but now i hopefully can so here goes:

I like the basic idea, i've played plenty of other games that had things like this and it can be fun.
But i wouldn't enjoy it in this game the way it is right now.

While this would be an optional beneficial spell for ^HP and ^Dam characters, it would be a prerequisite for ^Mana characters.

It would make it another prerequisite for ^Mana characters alongside an elemental shield (in fact it would make it a prerequisite FOR an elemental shield), while ^HP and ^Dam dont have pre-requisites.

It's not fun to play a character that has to fill up a portion of his bar just to be able to function.


Or to word it differently:
Having a Prerequisite is fine, having a prerequisite for a prerequisite, is not.


That said, if this would culminate into the idea of having an improved elemental shield alongside the basic elemental shield, one that only works in toggle form if you have it on your active bar and switches between mana regen + double/triple damage and a dam shield, and requires you to first level the basic elemental shield to 3+... i wouldn't be able to see a problem with that, atleast not yet.
