Summary0007278: Upgrade stones from killing enemies; getting hit removes upgrades
DescriptionThis is a fleshing out of the idea I put in the comments of the other idea (removing upgrade stones).

If killing enemies gave you upgrades, death would be a lot less painful. In effect this is realizing the idea from x4000's thread ie. the cave story idea.

The idea is something like this: killing enemies gives you upgrade stones occasionally. Many upgrade stones will allow you to upgrade as you do now. Once you make your choice of how to upgrade to a certain level, you can't take it back. Being hit beyond a certain amount will remove an upgrade. You can regain upgrades up to the level you were at without being given any more choices. Once you caught up to where you were, you can gain levels from upgrade stones (up to the current 10) and continue to make choices of whether you want to upgrade health, mana or spell damage.

The number of upgrade stones to get an upgrade should be increased.

Stashes will have super upgrade stones or just huge numbers of them to get you upgraded faster. In this way they're a shortcut.

I think this lessens the blow from death, because you can go out into the wild and do just about anything and so long as you're fighting enemies you'll get to upgrade. And stashes are just a shortcut to upgrading.
