Summary0007511: Fire Bats hit for too much
DescriptionI think this is mostly relevant when playing with the keyboard/gamepad. Fire bats are a huge pain in the butt. They do an insane amount of damage (including DoT), and they're impossible to shake. With the mouse, you can shoot them pretty easily before they get close, or at worst you can just run away and shoot backwards. You can't do these things with the other control schemes -- you have to run, then turn back and shoot, but you can't build up enough distance between you and them to do this.

Suggestion: either decrease their damage amount, or slow them down so they don't travel as fast.

I feel as if they do disproportionately large amounts of damage too, and that things like lightning espers in particular do disproportionately small amounts. I play on Hero and fire bats are like "GET HIT AND YOU WILL DIE" whereas lightning espers are like "Oh, you mean those things that give me health points?"

Yep. Exactly my feeling as well. In Skilled difficulty, getting hit by them 3 times means you die. And with keyboard controls, it's almost impossible not to get hit by fire bats, especially when an area is packed with them.

Lightning espers are pretty easy, but that's ok -- they're lower level critters and there are SO many of them.

The DoT can be shrugged by putting on a heat suit, but it would be neat if you could have elemental resistances of your own aside from the shield spells. Or if the fire could be put out if it is raining or if you take an acid dip.

I swear I have more trouble with fire bats than with the Lieutenants.

for me i like the bats as they are - but then i play with a hard hitting close combat style character - whip tends to handle bats very nicely and i imagine if not that there are other spells which would come in handy - i.e. auto-seeking miasma spell (cant remember the name) or ice cross. I only see the fire bats as a problem if your character has not developed and equipped some melee style spells - and i think that this is good encouragement to do so - i dont think every monster type should be nerfed so that the same spell tactics can deal with everything - monster types that cause high damage and require different approaches to deal with rather than the traditional long range shooter weapons is a good thing in my book.

I disagree; I think it makes some sense to have melee type attacks do more damage overall. Even the player has this to some degree, as spells like Death Touch or the whips do absurd damage, but only up close.

Also, the fire bat's high power is balanced by it's very low health. If you're having trouble.... and using a gamepad or keyboard.... just use the targeting button, and quickly fire basically anything at it, knockback spells in particular, and water spells of any sort.

Ice Cross is great against these guys.

I think they're balanced enough as it is, even if they ARE annoying.
