Summary0009184: AI gets mobile planetary tachyon emitters
DescriptionThey patrol around AI territory, essentially at random. This would make cloaking ships, and cloaker starship squads, less overpowered.
There should also be a tough, stationary planetary tachyon emitter on the AI homeworlds.
If this is added, tachyon guardians should be reduced in number.

This would severely nerf scouting though, which I'm personally very much against.

Yea, this would fundamentally alter (by basically exterminating) scout-picketing, which is a pretty important part of the game.

Hmm. Perhaps this could be extended on... I admit this is borrowed from another game (the name escapes me at the moment though), but what about having different cloaking levels? Scouts would have level 2, most (if not all) other ships would have level 1. Tachyon would have the same effect; tachyon devices would have level two, and most (if not all) other ships would have level 1. This would allow the above to have a level 1 tachyon, meaning it wouldn't affect scouts at all, and it would also eliminate another personal peeve of mine which is that scouting becomes nigh-impossible if the AI gets access to a tachyon-emitting unit.

I didn't think about the scout picketing problem. I would have them do tachyon pulses, and make scouts immune.

Or just keep these mobile guardians within the transport-unload range? I don't think it's a problem that stationary cloaked ships outside the main battlefield can hide indefinitely. I think this idea could potentially be a cool way of making cloaking more interesting --- both by giving the AI more tools to find cloaked ships and by (if this largely replaced tachyon guardians) by making it more interesting to sneak ships across a few worlds.
