Summary | 0010217: Too hard to hit weak spot of steam cannon (ceiling gun) before it shoots
Description | Preemptive .708 bug, based on attempting to play .707 without diagonal aiming. The ceiling gun's hit area is vanishingly small. In order to hit it, you either need to fire shots on a diagonal or get directly beneath it and fire straight up. It usually fires too frequently to get a shot off in this manner... esp. since firing straight up requires the player to hold their position. * Once diagonal aiming is removed, firing up while moving may get simpler, which would fix this issue. * Another possibility is to increase the size of the hit area, so pixel-perfect aiming isn't required to hit the vulnerable spot. * Or the time between shots could get longer, giving the player more time to aim.

I'm not sure about lengthening time between shots, and tbh, i don't bother with trying to kill them as they aren't a major threat, just an area hazard, like waterfalls. A slightly larger hitbox would be nice, maybe, as i sometimes get blocked even when standing straight under it. Although you don't have to hold your position. Standing to the side and crouching, you can wait til the shot comes in, and move in and get off like 2 or 3 shots, then run to the side and crouch again. |
Their shot speed is too fast on higher difficulties to actually hit them without getting hit with normal means. I always just run past, nearly always having to tank a hit, but sometimes I get lucky and make it through without a scratch. |

What Gemzo said sums it up for me. I only ever bothered trying to attack them if I had a homing shot. The firing speed is fast enough that even running by you tend to get hit by the rebounding spread. |
* If it's a hazard, then it shouldn't be possible to destroy it. (Maybe make a way to turn it off, though, since it's mechanical?). * If it's a monster, then it should be easier to hit. |
Now that diagonal shots are back, is this still an issue? |
I've never been able to damage this cannon with anything but a "clinging" (homing) spell. I don't think I've ever been able to shoot straight up at it though. |
