Summary | 0010664: Players do not temporarily lose their inventory when teleporting to desert.
Description | At 006-D (Snow Hill's exit to Alden Ridge), when players pass through the portal that results from taking the path through the mines, they're keeping their inventory. I tried unflagging the desert as being Overworld, but this didn't solve the issue. There's no gameplay harm in them bringing inventory here -- it's just inconsistent with how portals should work. If this can't be fixed, I'll have a message appear saying, "Well, at least he let us keep our inventory through this portal." I would rather it be fixed, though, as this presents a unique setting where walk-in levels can exist without fear of having items.

The reason for this is that it's overworld. There are actually two inventories -- one for the current level, and one for the overworld. When you're on an overworld one, it uses the overworld level. So it can't be an overworld level if you want it to lose the inventory. |
Edit: and unflagging that really should work, I don't know why it would not. But I just tested it and you're right. That's something I'll have to fix later, you can just assume it will work for now and design accordingly, right? |
So long as it can be fixed, I can jump right in! |
When you first arrive in the 007 desert, the status message says "Escape to complete level." (This is because it's not overworld.) This message is misleading because you really do have to complete the level's levels. Worse, when you do complete a level (in my test, 044), the status back at 007 desert calls itself Complete as well! It would be better to let the player see their Level Completion progress throughout the desert, but that only appears with overworld status. What if we DO keep the desert at OW but then let the players bring their inventory to the desert by means of that purple warp portal you were working on? We could (and will) state that warp portals allow you to keep your inventory. |

That sounds great to me! |

The wastes are now flagged as Overworld again, yes? So the inventory is retained (and is supposed to be, yes?). I think it's important that this work like other overworld sections to avoid confusion. For thematic reasons I need to make a different portal visual that the player goes through so it's clear why their inventory is retained, but that's about it I think. |
That's all correct. You and I decided to use that purple warp portal you were working on, which normally will let you jump between OW areas during a New Game +. |
