Summary | 0011683: Custom user-created maps
Description | The Custom map style would load a map layout from a user-created text file. The file would simply specify planet placement and connections for the galaxy layout. The map seed would not affect this arrangement, but only homeworld and bonus ship options (and of course all the rest of the AI seeding stuff). Simplest case, this map file would be a fixed file name that the game always uses, which the players then manually edit in a text editor. The user could self-manage multiple custom map layouts externally by copying/renaming files. The format could be a a numbered list of planet positions followed by a list of wormhole connections between numbered planets. Something like: 1 planet 115, 230 # planet 1; x,y position in whatever coordinates make sense to use 2 planet 75, 180 : 80 planet 185, 200 wormhole 15 3 # connects planets 15 and 3 with a wormhole wormhole 1 23 : wormhole 42 61 A possible enhancement to this would be to allow any planet lines in the file to optionally specify names for those planets: 1 planet 115, 230 "Sol"
