Summary | 0011692: Improve formatting of faction tooltip
Description | You know, the one saying which kind of units and buildings you have along with their current count. I use this one a lot, but the lack of newlines really makes it more difficult to parse than necessary. Also always providing the count for all units/buildings no matter if it is non-zero or not would be appreciated as, as of now, the location you have to look at for a given building changes based on what buildings are currently available - again more difficult to parse this way.

One tricky thing is that you always can have different units that didn't normally belong to your faction, and that's kind of problematic. It's also difficult to format this with newlines because of the nature of the names of the buildings always being different, and potential localizations impacting that even more. I hear what you're saying, but I'm not quite sure what to do about this. Possibly tabs in the last turn report or something for current holdings, I don't know. |
I can see how it will be different to maintain a fixed location for each an every unit/building etc. The existing alphabetic ordering should be okay enough in this case I guess. What I can't really see is why using newlines is a problem? IIRC you did this some patches ago for the resource tooltips as well. If each and every item added to the tooltip (after translation etc. is applied) is followed with a newline this should feasible, doesn't it? Or am I missing something. Thanks for considering! |
Oh, EVERY item having a newline after it? Sure, that would be feasible to do, except that it would totally go off the screen on most people's monitors, aside from also blocking the view hugely on most monitors. That's kind of what I meant with needing to get this into a more structured scrolling window like the end of turn report. |
I see = ). For some reason I thought it wouldn't be *that* much... Do as you see fit ; ). I would definitely welcome a more "parsable" display of the available buildings etc.. The After Turn Report sound like a reasonable place for this. Just don't forget to add a hot key for opening the report - I will use it ; ). Cheers! |
