Summary | 0011760: Tactical Launcher Platform
Description | I know this overlaps with the role of the torpedo frigate but I'm putting it here anyway as a suggestion for an alternate implementation or really a different unit. The TLP is the space equivalent of a missile submarine, it's a cloaked, unarmed mobile unit that produces small warheads like a missile silo does, these go straight into its storage. It can load up to five of them. There are no nukes in its arsenal but the other warheads could probably get an equivalent here, perhaps a powerful single-target warhead as well. Small warheads are weaker and cannot travel through wormholes but cause no AIP. They are fairly expensive resource-wise though, as is the launcher platform itself. The launcher only decloaks when unloading the warheads, it stays revealed for a while after that. Unloading happens at a fairly low rate and only starts a second or two after the launcher decloaks. The TLP is not intended to be used by poking through a wormhole, it must seek a safe launch location before unleashing the warheads. A full volley from the TLP should be on par with a minor superweapon in power despite the TLP not being restricted like superweapons are, the difficulty and cost of using it should make up for that. No idea if the AI would be capable of using this thing properly.
