Description | When placing a military building in a new town, you typically need to place several other required buildings to enable initial unit production. It would be a great time saver if the military units showed the total required building resource costs (beyond what is already built, separate from the unit-spawning cost, and including initial resource production if needed), and then allow you to click the military building (to make the tooltips temporarily persistent) and then the unit type (or a separate button, something like "queue these requirements") to queue the buildings to be placed rapidly (with one click each) without returning to the selection menu each time. It could use multiple left clicks to place the queued items (or shift-clicks like placing anything multiple times), with perhaps a window that says "queued buildings" with their names and icons (and possibly the costs) in an ordered list (say, left to right, so you know reading order is the placement order). If sufficient actions or resources are unavailable, the queue display could persist across turns with an option to cancel the remaining buildings. A left click on a queued item could highlight the queue and resume placing them, and a right-click (or releasing shift) could pause the queued placement and restore the normal mouse behavior. The queue could be player managed by allowing menu shift-clicks to add any desired buildings for later, so you don't forget to build them in subsequent turns, and icon drag+drop could rearrange the queue. Each side would need its own queue of course, and you could have queue-able tokens or mythological units too (perhaps in a separate queue and primarily for planning purposes), or have it work to queue their required resource buildings from the token menus.
Alternately (and much simpler), selecting a military unit from tooltips could highlight the outstanding requirements in the buildings menu. This would not be quite as nice, but would still save some hunt-and-click-the-requirements setup time. It could also be done with some "filter by military unit requirements" selection buttons when the buildings panel is open, and these buttons could show us the military unit tooltips on mouseover without having to place the military buildings first (the military building menu tooltips should probably just show the full unit info anyway though). |
