Summary0013263: Corrupted ship types can be unlocked again by the AI later
DescriptionIt's possible that after corrupting the design of a ship via a backup server, the AI may unlock this ship design a second time as AIP rises. As I understand it, the object of the corruption mechanic was that you would never see the ship type again.

I have included two save games. 9.04 is from early in the game and you can find Sentinel Frigate backup servers on Greenock and Falkirk. These were *both* hacked (corrupted) by me. Later, in save 9.23, you can see that one of the AIs has obtained a new Sentinel Frigate backup server on Kilcreggan.

Surely a corrupted design should never be re-unlocked?

The error here is not that the AI can unlock it again later.

1) The corruption must be done for both AIs to be effective.
2) The corruption does not affect ships already in use, or Mk V variants. The core worlds will spawn more Mk V versions when you get to that point.
3) If you destroy the back-up, whether or not you hacked it, another will appear elsewhere. This does not return the ability to produce the ships to the AI.

If anything the error is that number 3 occurs after you hack it, so you can choose to hack it again. The AI should not replace a corrupted or compromised back-up server.

Ahh, I was unaware of point 3. In that case, I would suggest that this is removed to force the player to make the choice of hacking or not hacking before taking the planet or doing anything else would cause the backup server to be destroyed.

Yes, I tackled with this issue on the forums earlier. Turns out you can corrupt both AI's copies, destroy a back up, and then download the information for yourself from the newly spawned one. It was stated to be not intended to operate this way, but the team has been too busy with their new game to patch it :)

Oh, you probably shouldn't have told me that... Now I have to resist the temptation to exploit it.

Meant to mark this earlier, but from 7.014:

* Fixed some confusion with the design-downloading/design-corrupting restrictions. Previously you could not download and corrupt on the same planet, but the server hit by the (first) attack would stick around. So it looked like you could do the other one but it just wouldn't start the process. Now either downloading or corrupting will destroy all the servers on the planet (and remove those designs from anywhere else in the galaxy), to make it obvious that doing the one has prevented the other.
** Along with this, corrupting a design now applies to both AI players.

Thanks :)

No, thank you!
