Summary0013333: AFA insurgents impossible to defeat
DescriptionAttacking the AFA insurgents ("Help Clean Up AFA Insurgents") seems to reliably result in an unwinnable battle. The enemy has dozens of flagships in a ring, putting out hundreds of fleet ships that swamp you, while your selected ally doesn't seem to actually send any ships at all. On top of that, you can't retreat for a whole four minutes.

About the only bright side is that if there are multiple races in the insurgents, they're all hostile to each other (I think that's a bug).

How about now? Do you have a save where this is an issue? The amount of stuff that spawns is contextual, so a save would be helpful.

Trying with the more recent versions:

AFA ambushes are fine; they have a manageable 10 flagships or so. Cleaning them up from a planet on the other hand... (see attached save; there's 48 of them in a tight ring)
Planet is Evuck homeworld with insurgent population of 42 M and demonstrator population of 24 M, btw.

I just noticed that the enemy ships in the Help Clean Up AFA Insurgents mission use the racial name prefix instead of the pirate one. This leads me to speculate that the defence armadas are being added to the AFA fleet.

Okay, now this is just plain ridiculous... (bountyhuntermess.save, 480 enemy units listed at start)

EDIT: Oops, I just realized those are assassins, not AFA. Still, I think there's a bit of a problem here.

AFA insurgents mission is over the top ... I created the federation and soon after I found there're some on the Peltian planet. So I started the mission and 44 flagships to defeat plus the spawning fighters.

In that mission there were substantially more flagships to defeat than the Peltian planet had in armadas.

However, it was still fun taking them all out in about 140 turns and the mission yielded 9000ish credits...

I agree they should grow over time but they should start with more realistic numbers.

Furthermore, I find it strange that I need an ally to even start the mission just to end up facing them alone...

Now I had a much tougher AFA insurgent mission with advanced skylaxian ships. It took me about 300 turns to crack that nut. ;)

Anyway, kind of annoying to realize after finishing that mission there are more insurgents to blow up on the same planet. Shouldn't it take some time after finishing the mission till they appear again. Makes me wonder why bother to root them out except as an alternative way to gain something like 10kish credits instead of dispatch missions.

Attacking Local AFA fleet sizes either start out to large or grow too quickly. There were more ships in the AFA mission as soon as it was available, then total other ships in the galaxy.

I played 1.001 and I think it's fine if they're unwinnable or hard to win. You kill as many as possible and withdraw, getting tons of credits (4x) in the process. If they're easy to win then they'll be viable credit farming method.

I'd suggest ability to call Federation allies to back you up, with the cost of reducing credits multiplier.
